Soft tissue integration of different abutment surfaces: An experimental study with histological analysis

OBJECTIVE To evaluate whether abutment surface and surface bio-activation have an effect on soft tissue morphogenesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS 36 patients (36 implants) were included. Abutments were randomly divided into 4 groups (n = 9): Smooth Surface-MAChined (MAC), Ultrathin Threaded Microsurface (UTM), MAC Plasma of Argon activated (Plasma-MAC), and UTM Plasma of Argon activated (Plasma-UTM). After 2 months of healing, soft tissue samples were collected and prepared for histological analysis. Ocena aktywności przeciwdrobnoustrojowej olejku geraniowego

Olejki eteryczne od lat poddaje się badaniom poszukując w nich alternatywy dla syntetycznych środków konserwujących w kosmetykach. Olejek geraniowy dzięki zawartości głównie geraniolu i cytronelolu stanowi potencjalnie właśnie taką substancję. Celem przeprowadzonych badań było określenie właściwości przeciwdrobnoustrojowych olejku geraniowego. W pracy wykorzystano komercyjny olejek (AvicennaOil). Oceniono aktywność przeciwdrobnoustrojową etanolowego roztworu olejku w zakresie stężeń od 0,25 do 10,0 µl/ml. Bakalaura darbā tika veikta kadmiju saturošu augstfrekvences bezelektrodu lampu (ABL) spektru reģistrācija un identifikācija. Tika analizēta kadmija, cinka, dzīvsudraba un argona spektrālo līniju intensitātes atkarība no ierosmes ģeneratora jaudas, kā arī tika aplūkota ABL starojuma intensitātes stabilitāte laikā. Darba ietvaros LU Atomfizikas un spektroskopijas institūtā veidotās lampas tika salīdzinātas ar komerciāli pieejamu kadmiju saturošu ABL.

Spectral shapes of forbidden argon β decays as background component for rare-event searches

The spectral shape of the electrons from the two first-forbidden unique ${\beta }^{-}$ decays of 39Ar and 42Ar were calculated for the first time to the next-to-leading order. Especially the spectral shape of the 39Ar decay can be used to characterize this background component for dark matter searches based on argon. Molecular complexes between glycolic acid and nitrogen were studied in a low-temperature argon matrix with FTIR spectroscopy, and supported by MP2 and BLYPD3 calculations. The calculations indicate 11 and 10 stable complex structures at the MP2 and BLYPD3 levels of theories, respectively. However, only one hydrogen-bonded complex structure involving the most stable SSC conformer of glycolic acid was found experimentally, where the nitrogen molecule is bound with the carboxylic OH group of the SSC conformer. Sphalerite (ZnS) is an abundant ore mineral and an important carrier of elements such as Ge, Ga and In used in high-technology applications. In situ measurements of trace elements in natural sphalerite samples using LA-ICP-MS are hampered by a lack of homogenous matrix-matched sulfide reference materials available for calibration. A Novel Gas Chromatographic Method to Measure Sorption of Dense Gases into Polymers

A novel experimental approach to determine the solubility of gaseous compounds inside polymers is here described. The method is based on the gas chromatographic determination of the composition of the fluid phase at equilibrium with the polymer. To take into account the effect of the volume swelling on the measurement a suitable probe, nonabsorbable by the polymer, was added to the fluid phase. Under the adopted configuration the apparatus can operate up to 35 MPa and 80°C. A novel experimental apparatus for measuring gas absorption has been adopted to study sorption of carbon dioxide CO2 and vinylidenefluoride (VDF) in a semi crystalline polymer, namely poly(vinylidenefluoride) (PVDF). The experimental technique allows to calculate simultaneous absorption of different components in the polymer phase, through a gas chromatographic determination of the composition of the fluid phase. Abstract Solid solutions of Ar:N 2 and ( KBr ) 1− x ( KCN ) x mixed crystals show a so-called orientational glass state where the orientations of the aspherical species, N 2 respectively CN - , are frozen in random patterns. The main experimental characteristics of this state and the pertinent theoretical concepts are discussed.
