The Predictors of Literacy Skills among Monolingual and Bilingual Finnish–Swedish Children During First Grade

The aim of the study was to examine which predictor variables are related to literacy skills among monolingual Swedish (n = 269) and bilingual Finnish–Swedish (n = 229) children at the first grade in the Swedish-speaking schools in Finland. The participants were assessed in phonological awareness, letter knowledge, rapid automatized naming (RAN), word recognition, reading fluency, and spelling. The results showed that RAN was the most significant predictor of reading and spelling skills in both language groups, and monolingual children performed significantly better in RAN. In order to prevent hydrocarbon discharge at sea from ships, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) enacted the MARPOL 73/78 convention in which any oil and oil residue discharged in wastewater streams must contain less than 5 ppm hydrocarbons. Effective treatment of this petroleum-contaminated water is essential prior to its release into the environment, in order to prevent pollution problem for marine ecosystems as well as for human health. This article gathers some reflections and suggestions that have been carried out throughout the workshop “Arquitectura construida y espacio habitado en los poblados de colonizatión de Italia y España” held in Palermo between the 21st and 22nd January 2020. The case studies that are here analysed and compared are Latina (ancient Littoria), in the Lazio region, Italy, and Valdelacalzada, in the Extremadura region, Spain. Ärsykkeen sydämen sykkeeseen ajastamisella on huomattu olevan yhteyttä sensoriseen havainnointiin ja korkeampaan kognitiiviseen prosessointiin, kun sykevälivaihtelu (HRV)puolestaan on yhdistetty tarkkaavaisuuteen. Tässä tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin sykevälivaihtelun sekä ärsykkeen sydämen sykkeeseen ajastamisen yhteyksiä oppimiseen. Koehenkilöt osallistuivat silmäniskuehdollistumiskokeeseen, missä ärsykkeet oli ajastettu joko sydämen sykkeen systoliseen tai diastoliseen vaiheeseen.
