Therapeutic Benefits of Music-Based Synchronous Finger Tapping In Parkinson’s Disease – an fNIRS Study Protocol for Randomized Controlled Trial in Da…
2020
Abstract Background: Music therapy improves neuronal activity and connectivity of healthy persons and patients with clinical symptoms of neurological diseases like Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Major Depression. Despite the plethora of publications that have reported the positive effects of music interventions, little is known about how music improves neuronal activity and connectivity in afflicted patients. Methods: For patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease (PD), we propose a daily 25-minute music-based synchronous finger tapping (SFT) intervention for 8-weeks. Eligible participants with PD are split into two groups: an intervention group and a control arm. In addition…
Propaganda Barometer : A Supportive Tool to Improve Media Literacy Towards Building a Critically Thinking Society
2018
To smartly consume a huge and constantly growing volume of information, to identify fake news and resist propaganda in the context of Information Warfare, to improve personal critical thinking capabilities and increase media literacy, people require supportive environment with sophisticated technology facilitated tools. With rapid development of media, widespread popularity of social networks and fast growing amount of information distribution channels, propaganda and information warfare enter an absolutely new digital technology supported cyber era. Propaganda mining is not a trivial and very time consuming process for human. And, as with any new technology, human need certain time to unde…
Towards better academic research-based education in family business : a cross-national comparison of advanced teaching and learning practices
2003
Experiences of combining doctoral studies and everyday family life
2015
How to combine work and family life and find individually best solutions in everyday life, is a topical and globally significant subject. In this article I immerse to how the under 40-year-old female doctoral students with a family succeed in combining their important roles as a mother and a doctoral student in their own everyday lives. Many simultaneous challenges encounter in the everyday life of an under 40-year-old female doctoral student with a family. In the examination I concentrate on the everyday challenges of the female doctoral student, on the interface of the family and the doctoral studies and on the choices made in everyday life. nonPeerReviewed
Technicolor and new matter generations
2010
This work consists of an overview part and three research papers. The subject of this work is a class of models for dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking, and new generations of fermionic matter. An introductory overview of the standard model of electroweak interactions is given, as well as an overview of some of the recent developments in the field of walking technicolor models. We study some recently proposed models for dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking, namely the minimal walking technicolor (MWT) and next to minimal walking technicolor (NMWT) model. We show that, as a result of cancellation of the global and gauge anomalies associated with the technicolor sector, a non sequentia…
Periodontal health in a population with Parkinson's disease in Spain: a cross-sectional study.
2022
Background: The aim of this research is to evaluate the periodontal health of patients with Parkinson Disease (PD) in a Spanish cohort. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed on 104 patients with PD (mean age: 66.19+9.3 years) and 106 controls (mean age: 59.26+14.11 years). A pre-designed clinical protocol was implemented, which included a standardized epidemiological index for periodontal disease (CPITN), clinical attachment loss (CAL), tooth-loss, full mouth plaque index (FMPI), and oral hygienic habits. Univariate descriptions and comparative analysis were performed. Results: The majority of PD patients presented good oral hygienic habits. There were no significant d…
MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING–GUIDED FOCUSED ULTRASOUND THALAMOTOMY IN PATIENT WITH TREMOR COMBINED WITH PARKINSONISM: RETREATMENT AFTER BENEFIT DECAY
2019
Background In recent years, transcranial Magnetic Resonance-guided Focused UltraSounds (tcMRgFUS) treatments for functional neurological disorders are giving a new thrust to the field of therapeutic brain lesioning. This technique has been proven safe and effective in selected patients. Here we present the case of a patient affected by tremor combined with parkinsonism who underwent a second tcMRgFUS thalamotomy because of relapsing tremor after a few months from the first tcMRgFUS treatment. Materials and Methods A 72-year-old, right-handed man, who came to our observation because of a disabling tremor affecting mainly his upper right limb and refusing any invasive surgical procedure. His …
