Three-mode two-boson Jaynes–Cummings model in trapped ions

In this paper, we analyse a two-boson three-mode Jaynes–Cummings model which can be implemented in the context of trapped ions. The symmetries of the Hamiltonian are brought to light and analysed in detail in order to solve the eigenvalue problem. The calculation of the time evolution operator shows the possibility of realizing interesting applications, such as the generation of nonclassical states.
Pressure measurements of TO-phonon anharmonicity in isotopic ZnS

We have measured the dependence on pressure of the line-widths of the TO and LO Raman phonons of β-ZnS. In order to enhance the phenomena observed, and to eliminate possible effects of isotopic disorder, we have measured a nearly isotopically pure crystal, 68 Zn 32 S. The strongly structured pressure effects observed are interpreted on the basis of anharmonic decay and the corresponding two-phonon density of states.

Abstract 4-Nitroaniline (pNA) and 3,5-dinitro-aniline (3,5-DNA) were studied by electric field induced second harmonic generation (EFISH) and electrooptical absorption measurements (EOAM) in dioxane solution at T = 298 K. The measurements were carried out for two polarization conditions, the electric field vector of the linearly polarized incident light being parallel or perpendicular to the static electric field. The second-order polarizability tensor of pNA is confirmed to be Kleinman symmetric, while a strong deviation from index permutation symmetry is observed for 3,5-DNA. Raman scattering study of the anharmonic effects in CeO2−ynanocrystals

We have studied the temperature dependence of the F2g Raman mode phonon frequency and broadening in CeO2−y nanocrystals. The phonon softening and phonon linewidth are calculated using a model which takes into account the three-and four-phonon anharmonic processes. A detailed comparison of the experimental data with theoretical calculations revealed the predominance of four-phonon anharmonic processes in the temperature dependence of the phonon energy and broadening of the nanocrystals. On the other hand, three-phonon processes dominate the temperature behavior of phonons in polycrystalline samples. Global context effects on musical expectancy.

The effects of global harmonic contexts on expectancy formation were studied in a set of three experiments. Eight-chord sequences were presented to subjects. Expectations for the last chord were varied by manipulating the harmonic context created by the first six: in one context, the last chord was part of an authentic cadence (V–I), whereas in the other, it was a fourth harmonic degree following a full cadence (I–IV). Given this change in harmonic function, the last chord was assumed to be more expected in the former context, all the other local parameters being held constant. Children's implicit knowledge of harmony in Western music.

Three experiments examined children's knowledge of harmony in Western music. The children heard a series of chords followed by a final, target chord. In Experiment 1, French 6- and 11-year-olds judged whether the target was sung with the vowel /i/ or /u/. In Experiment 2, Australian 8- and 11-year-olds judged whether the target was played on a piano or a trumpet. In Experiment 3, Canadian 8- and 11-year-olds judged whether the target sounded good (i.e. consonant) or bad (dissonant). Anharmonicity deformation and curvature in supersymmetric potentials

An algebraic description of the class of 1D supersymmetric shape invariant potentials is investigated in terms of the shape-invariant-potential (SIP) deformed algebra, the generators of which act both on the dynamical variable and on the parameters of the potentials. The phase space geometry associated with SIP's is studied by means of a coherent state (SIP-CS) path integral and the ray metric of the SIP-CS manifold. The anharmonicity of SIP's results in a inhomogeneous phase space manifold with one Killing vector and with a modified symplectic Kahler structure, and it induces a non constant curvature into the generalized phase space.
