Resilient hexapod robot

In this paper, we present a method of learning desired behaviour of the specific robotic system and transfer of the existing knowledge in the event of partial system failure. Six-legged robot (hexapod) built on top of the Bioloid platform is used for the method verification. We use genetic algorithms to optimize the hexapod's gait, after which we simulate physical damage caused to the robot. The goal of this method is to optimize the gait in accordance with the actual robot morphology, instead of the assumed one. Also, knowledge that was previously gained will be transferred in order to improve the results. Nonstandard genetic algorithm with the specific mixed population is used for this.

Visual exploration of scientific data in life science\ud area is a growing research field due to the large amount of\ud available data. The Kohonen’s Self Organizing Map (SOM) is\ud a widely used tool for visualization of multidimensional data.\ud In this paper we present a fast learning algorithm for SOMs\ud that uses a simulated annealing method to adapt the learning\ud parameters. Learning problem solving skills from demonstration: An architectural approach

We present an architectural approach to learning problem solving skills from demonstration, using internal models to represent problem-solving operational knowledge. Internal forward and inverse models are initially learned through active interaction with the environment, and then enhanced and finessed by observing expert teachers. While a single internal model is capable of solving a single goal-oriented task, it is their sequence that enables the system to hierarchically solve more complex task. Sentence Induced Transformations in Conceptual Spaces

The proposed work illustrates how "primitive concepts" can be automatically induced from a text corpus. The primitive concepts are identified by the orthonormal axis of a "conceptual" space induced by a methodology inspired to the latent semantic analysis approach. The methodology represents a natural language sentence by means of a set of rotations of an orthonormal basis in the "conceptual"space. The rotations, triggered by the sequence of words composing the sentence and realized by means of geometric algebra rotors, allow to highlight "conceptual" relations that can arise among the primitive concepts.

Personal photo album organization is a highly demanding domain where advanced tools are required to manage large photo collections. In contrast to many previous works, that try to solve the problem of organizing a single user photo sequence, we present a new technique to account for the concurrent photo sequence organization problem, that is the problem of organizing multiple photo sequences taken during the same event. The recent densification of Wi-Fi networks is exacerbating the effects of well-known pathologies including hidden nodes and flow starvation. This paper provides an automatic diagnostic tool for detecting the source roots of performance impairments by recognizing the wireless operating context. An evaluation of recent local image descriptors for real-world applications of image matching

This paper discusses and compares the best and most recent local descriptors, evaluating them on increasingly complex image matching tasks, encompassing planar and non-planar scenarios under severe viewpoint changes. This evaluation, aimed at assessing descriptor suitability for real-world applications, leverages the concept of approximated overlap error as a means to naturally extend to non-planar scenes the standard metric used for planar scenes.
