Langage et Apprentissage en Interaction pour des Assistants Numériques Autonomes - Une Approche Développementale
2021
The rapid development of digital assistants (DA) opens the way to new modes of interaction. Some DA allows users to personalise the way they respond to queries, in particular by teaching them new procedures. This work proposes to use machine learning methods to enrich the linguistic and procedural generalisation capabilities of these systems. The challenge is to reconcile rapid learning skills, necessary for a smooth user experience, with a sufficiently large generalisation capacity. Though this is a natural human ability, it remains out-of-reach for artificial systems and this leads us to approach these issues from the perspective of developmental Artificial Intelligence. This work is thus…
Conception d'architectures compactes pour la détection spatiotemporelle d'actions en temps réel
2022
This thesis tackles the spatiotemporal action detection problem from an online, efficient, and real-time processing point of view. In the last decade, the explosive growth of video content has driven a broad range of application demands for automating human action understanding. Aside from accurate detection, vast sensing scenarios in the real-world also mandate incremental, instantaneous processing of scenes under restricted computational budgets. However, current research and related detection frameworks are incapable of simultaneously fulfilling the above criteria. The main challenge lies in their heavy architectural designs and detection pipelines to extract pertinent spatial and tempor…
Exploiting deep learning algorithms and satellite image time series for deforestation prediction
2022
In recent years, we have witnessed the emergence of Deep Learning (DL) methods, which have led to enormous progress in various fields such as automotive driving, computer vision, medicine, finances, and remote sensing data analysis. The success of these machine learning methods is due to the ever-increasing availability of large amounts of information and the computational power of computers. In the field of remote sensing, we now have considerable volumes of satellite images thanks to the large number of Earth Observation (EO) satellites orbiting the planet. With the revisit time of satellites over an area becoming shorter and shorter, it will probably soon be possible to obtain daily imag…
Real-time micro-expression analysis by artificial vision
2022
Human-computer interaction technologies focus more and more on the human being, whether it is on his identity, or on his physical and mental state. Significant progress has been made in the last few decades. However, the study of thoughts and emotions is still an underdeveloped field, but one that has begun to gain considerable interest. In this field, the analysis of facial expressions is the preferred treatment.Unlike a macro-expression, which is visible to the eye, a micro-expression is a type of involuntary facial expression that is extremely rapid and of very low intensity. The computer vision scientific community has been studying ways to automatically recognize micro-expressions usin…
Traitement de données RGB et Lidar à extrêmement haute résolution: retombées de la compétition de fusion de données 2015 de l'IEEE GRSS - Partie A / …
2016
International audience; In this paper, we discuss the scientific outcomes of the 2015 data fusion contest organized by the Image Analysis and Data Fusion Technical Committee (IADF TC) of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (IEEE GRSS). As for previous years, the IADF TC organized a data fusion contest aiming at fostering new ideas and solutions for multisource studies. The 2015 edition of the contest proposed a multiresolution and multisensorial challenge involving extremely high-resolution RGB images and a three-dimensional (3-D) LiDAR point cloud. The competition was framed in two parallel tracks, considering 2-D and 3-D products, respectively. In this paper, we discuss the sci…

A new reading of Bronze Age funerary structures in Mongolia through the analysis of their architectural elements, arrangement and form
2022
The archaeological landscape of Mongolia is marked by the presence of numerous funerary monuments (khirigsuurs) and engraved stelae (deer stones), erected by nomadic populations at the end of the Bronze Age. The first observations indicate great regularity in the choice and arrangement of the architectural and iconographic elements at the time when these structures were built. This regularity suggests the existence of shared traditions and social coherence between nomadic communities in a territory covering almost twice that of France. The data available today do not provide sufficient perspective to establish social models at the level of a province, and even less so at the scale of the co…
Artificial Intelligence and socio-digital networks: impact study on the dynamics of social movements in France and Romania
2019
Facebook announced the most significant redesign of the platform since 2004, aimed precisely to attracting users to groups and to create "a sense by interacting with the natural and social environment, by networking their neural networks with the networks of the nature and with social networks ”(Castells, 2012, p.8). Is this a“ mirror effect ”of Facebook for its users? To answer this fundamental question, which poses the question of the free will of users and the risks of manipulation of the platform on individuals, I carried out a research from a corpus of thirty-five Facebook groups "yellow vests" French and thirty-five "rezist" groups from Romania. This study therefore asks successively:…
Indoor Scene Understanding using Non-Conventional Cameras
2020
Humans understand environments effortlessly, under a wide variety of conditions, by the virtue of visual perception. Computer vision for similar visual understanding is highly desirable, so that machines can perform complex tasks by interacting with the real world, to assist or entertain humans. In this regard, we are particularly interested in indoor environments, where humans spend nearly all their lifetime. This thesis specifically addresses the problems that arise during the quest of the hierarchical visual understanding of indoor scenes. On the side of sensing the wide 3D world, we propose to use non-conventional cameras, namely 360º imaging and 3D sensors. On the side of understanding, …
