International audience; Nous présentons dans cet article les premiers résultats d’une fouille programmée en cours sur la plage d’Urville-Nacqueville. Initiées en 2009, ces recherches ont permis de mettre au jour les vestiges d’un centre artisanal et commercial dont le dynamisme et la prospérité sont exprimés par de nombreux marqueurs dont l’association est rarement documentée en dehors des sanctuaires ou des nécropoles (amphores républicaines, statères, parures en matériaux importés). La découverte et l’étude également en cours d’une importante nécropole située à quelques centaines de mètres de ce secteur autorisent à interpréter le site dans son ensemble comme une agglomération portuaire. …

The Ecuelles Charmoy site is one of the first Late Hallstatt settlements to be discovered on the edge of the plateau that dominates the Seine-Yonne confluence. In use for only a short period at the end of the 5th and during the first half of the 4th century BC, the site includes postholed buildings, storage pits and other structures in an organized domestic space. The pottery, especially the painted ware, is particularly abundant in the storage pits and constitutes a reference of local ware and its production. The idea of crafts specifically linked to a high status court, with outstanding artisans who gravitated around a local prince took form during the study of objects from the Lavau tomb, the discovery of which has given scholars a rare glimpse of the riches contained within a high status tomb dating to the La Tène A1. These objects, from a tomb that is later than most tombs of this period, represent a standard Hallstattian funerary set but also include new La Tène objects. L’habitat protohistorique de Marly, La Grange aux Ormes, qui fait l’objet de ce volume, est situé en Moselle, à moins de 400 m de la Seille, cours d’eau dont la vallée est connue pour avoir été un important centre d’exploitation du sel aux âges du Fer. L’étude des nombreuses structures du site a permis d’observer l’évolution d’une occupation sur près de quatre siècles, de la fin de l’âge du Bronze final IIIb (Hallsatt B3) à la fin du premier âge du Fer (Hallstatt D2-D3).Cette occupation se répartit essentiellement sur deux zones, la première concentrant l’habitat proprement dit, aménagé en rive d’un chenal, alors que la seconde zone, distante de 300 m, semble réunir la plupart des activités…

L’étude de l’économie de la Gaule romaine par les archéologues a traditionnellement privilégié l’analyse des lieux de production agricole et artisanale, ainsi que la diffusion des produits manufacturés. La large diffusion de produits à l’échelle du bassin méditerranéen et jusque dans les provinces septentrionales de l’Empire, voire en dehors, suggère une économie ouverte aux échanges à longue distance. Les recherches montrent cependant que la diffusion n’atteint jamais la totalité de l’Empire, voire du Bassin méditerranéen, si ce n’est de manière marginale. Par ailleurs, à l’écart des rivages de la Méditerranée, l’examen des mobiliers provenant de sites d’habitat conduit à nuancer la place …
