Early childhood education (ECE) in Finland has developed in recent years and extensive reforms have taken place in both staffing and pedagogical content, but the ECE is facing a shortage of teachers. Previous research has highlighted the problems of social recognition, salary issues, and working conditions. The focus of this study is to identify the challenges teachers face in ECE and opportunities to increase the motivation for work. The research was conducted through survey that was answered by 469 teachers or former teachers. The factor analysis summarized the main challenges of the work, such as the lack of social recognition and the declining meaning of the work. Improving salaries bec…
Worldviews and National Values in Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish Early Childhood Education and Care Curricula
2021
This paper examines how worldviews and national values are displayed in the national (Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) curricula of Sweden, Finland and Norway. The specific interest is to investigate what similarities and differences there are between these three ECEC curricula with regard to the position of religions and other worldviews. ECEC is often the first societal arena for children to enter and to negotiate their personal values, worldviews, and memberships in relation to the values represented in the surrounding social context. Countries employ different policies for dealing with diversity. Home languages for example, are often supported whereas for home cultures and worl…
Early Health, Risk Aversion and Stock Market Participation
2019
To examine the relationship between early health status and financial decisions in adulthood, we link information on birth weight in 1966 from the Northern Finland Birth Cohort to data from the Finnish Central Securities Depository over the period of 19952010. We find that persons predisposed to poor health status in early childhood (indicated by low birth weight) avoid participating in the stock market in adulthood. The link between birth weight and stock market participation is partially explained by the fact that poor early health status leads to risk aversion. Early health status is not significantly related to the portfolio’s value-growth tilt. nonPeerReviewed

Data were collected from 300 experienced mobile banking users across the KSA using a pre-tested survey instrument. The partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the data. The results supported most of the hypotheses and revealed that e-service quality, e-information quality, and experience flow have a significant an…

Value Co-creation for Smart Villages: The Institutionalization of Regional Service Ecosystems
2020
Building a versatile portfolio of public and private digital-enabled services is vital in rural and sparsely populated regions, where traditional market mechanisms alone cannot guarantee the availability of essential services. However, contemporary services tend to build on prevalent institutions, often governed by decisions based on market mechanisms, such as economies of scale – service-by-service and village-by-village. A shift is suggested towards networks of smart villages co-creating value as regional service ecosystems. We draw from institutional theory and employ the Service-dominant logic (SDL) framework in investigating value co-creation in rural villages in Sweden. Analyzing 53 l…
