Environmental rhetoric in Finnish business : environmental values and stakeholder relations in the corporate argumentation of acceptable environmenta…
2009
Technical and strategic orientations have dominated the field of environmental management research as well as corporate practices. Understanding of the power of language, cultural words and human interaction has been missing in environmental management research. This study focuses on understanding rhetoric construction of acceptable environmental management. The research task here is to describe and interpret the rhetoric forms that are used to produce acceptable environmental action in Finnish business, with a special interest on environmental values and stakeholder relations produced in the studied data. I adhere to the school of new rhetoric that suggests that difference between rhetoric …
Ympäristöarvot, -asenteet ja arkikäytännöt : kestävän kehityksen edistäminen Salmen koulussa
2015
Ihmisten huoli omasta tulevaisuudestaan on nostanut ympäristökasvatuksen suuren mielenkiinnon kohteeksi tämän päivän maailmassa. Ympäristönsuojeluun ja ympäristökasvatukseen liittyvien teemojen rinnalla alettiin puhua 1980-luvun lopulla kestävästä kehityksestä, jonka keskeisin ajatus on tyydyttää nykyhetken tarpeet viemättä kuitenkaan tulevilta sukupolvilta mahdollisuutta tyydyttää omat tarpeensa. Koulutus on avainasemassa kestävän kehityksen mukaiseen elämäntapaan oppimisessa. Tällä hetkellä menossa olevassa perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteiden uudistamistyössä kantavana ajatuksena on tukea koulujen toimintaa kestävän tulevaisuuden rakentamisessa. Perusopetuksessa on tavoitteena t…
Customer Environmental Values and Their Contribution to Loyalty in Industrial Markets
2016
Concern over the effect of industries on the natural environment is growing on a multitude of levels. This study examines the effects of how perceptions of (a) environmental values, (b) green image and (c) perceived value of industrial customers influence their loyalty towards suppliers in existing relationships, and how the length of B2B relationships may moderate these linkages. A conceptual framework is developed and data are collected from a global sample (N =121) of B2B customers. We find that both green image and perceived value have a direct positive link with customer loyalty and that environmental values are positively linked to the green image of the supplier. Moreover, the effect…
Look closer to see further : exploring environmental life cycle management, LCM
2006
Product life cycle management, LCM, is an emerging concept describing the efforts to study and develop the environmental efficiency of product life cycles. Its definitions vary and the understanding on its goal and related activities also affect the possible outcomes. The purpose of this study is to explore what is LCM and what are the related activities. The research related to corporate environmental management often relies on realist assumptions and technology-based views. These often fail to grasp the factors related to social interaction, subjective experiences and understanding that may be crucial in advancing environmental considerations in companies, and therefore a phenomenological…
Keskisuomalainen turveprotesti : Pelastetaan reittivedet -yhdistyksen tarina
2020
Ympäristökonfliktien hallinnassa käydään kauppaa taloudellisten hyötyjen ja ympäristöhaittojen välillä. Nykyinen hallinnan malli on edustuksellis-korporatiivinen.

Reflecting on Work Values with Young Unemployed Adults in Finland
2019
In this article, we explore the internal conversations about the work values of young unemployed adults in Finland. We draw on the theoretical concept of internal conversation by Margaret Archer in order to shift the focus from the individual work values to the interplay between subjective concerns and structural circumstances. The data consist of six group interviews conducted among 29 young unemployed adults. We argue that the internal conversations on work values of young unemployed adults constitute five significant concerns: self-realization and opportunity to contribute to society; sufficient income to live independently; social expectations; challenges of finding employment; and unsu…
Moral Orders of Mobility: Youth Aspirations and ‘Doing’ Social Position in Finland
2021
By studying the moral orders that young Finnish adults (aged 18–30) attach to geographical mobility, this article reveals previously neglected relationships between aspiration and mobility. The 40 young adult interviewees are living in the midst of Finnish political debates about youth aspiration, which emphasise geographical rather than social mobility as a way to enhance employability and demonstrate aspiration. We argue that young people themselves use the discourse of geographical mobility by leaning on morally ordered social positionings which tend to be classed and gendered. They position themselves on a moral map of Finnish society, and in doing so they work and rework the social or…
Re-establishing traditional Czech family businesses : a multiple case study on the present challenges
2004
After virtually 50 years of expropriation and state ownership, a large number of Czech traditional family businesses were returned to their original owners. Despite the volatile and risky socio-economical and political conditions of the early 90’s, many businesses have been re-established by their former family owners and have carried out their activities with varying degrees of success until now.The main goal of this study is to monitor the challenges that family businesses face today and to investigate whether some of these might be facilitated through well suited business education and counseling. The study is a non-positivistic study – a multiple case study performed in the Czech Republ…
