Monthly precipitation and runoff series of Begura de Salma River (Mallorca, Spain): January 2015-October 2018

2020

Here we provide the data set obtained as described in detail in Estrany et al. (2020, doi:10.5194/nhess-2019-304); a brief description is presented below. A hydrometric gauging station is located where the Begura de Salma River enters Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, a village located in the northeastern part of Mallorca island (Spain). The station was built by the water authority in the 1970s. After years of abandonment, in 2015 the MEDhyCON Research Group installed within the gauge house a Hobo Water Level U20L-04, which measures the water stage by 1-minute readings, accumulating 15-minute average values. The station is located at the very beginning of the concrete channel that takes the river…

HLA Class II Differentiates Between Thyroid and Polyglandular Autoimmunity.

2015

The HLA class II genes are susceptibility genes for autoimmune endocrine diseases; however, scarce data are available pertaining to the determinants of genetic susceptibility to polyglandular autoimmunity (PGA). A total of 300 consecutive and unselected patients with either PGA or monoglandular autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) and 100 healthy control subjects were genotyped for the HLA class II DRB1, -DQA1, and -DQB1 alleles. Compared to patients with AITD and controls, the HLA-DRB1*03 (pc =0.001), *04 (pc<0.001), -DQA1*03 (pc<0.001), and -DQB1*02 (pc =0.001) alleles were increased in patients with PGA. When dividing patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) into those with PGA (PGA-HT) v…

Early Treatment of Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis with Canakinumab and Complete Remission After 2 Years of Treatment Suspension: Case Report …

2019

Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) is an autoinflammatory disease characterised by fever and arthritis. We describe the case of a 14-year-old girl hospitalised with fever associated with rash, myalgia, arthralgia and polyarticular involvement. Examinations revealed increased levels of C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, ferritin, triglycerides, leukocytes, neutrophils, lactate dehydrogenase, fibrinogen, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and γ-glutamyl transferase (GGT). Bone marrow biopsy showed polyclonal leukocyte activation. A genetic study revealed a heterozygous mutation of the MEFV gene, c.442G>C (E148Q), which is typical of…

Dissecting the clinical heterogeneity of adult-onset Still's disease, results from a multi-dimensional characterisation and stratification

2021

Abstract Objectives To stratify adult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD) patients in distinct clinical subsets to be differently managed, by using a multi-dimensional characterization. Methods AOSD patients were evaluated by using a hierarchical unsupervised cluster analysis comprising age, laboratory markers systemic score and outcomes. The squared Euclidean distances between each pair of patients were calculated and put into a distance matrix, which served as the input clustering algorithm. Derived clusters were descriptively analysed for any possible difference. Results Four AOSD patients clusters were identified. Disease onset in cluster 1 was characterized by fever (100%), skin rash (92%) an…

Mediterranean spotted fever: clinical and laboratory characteristics of 415 Sicilian children

2006

Abstract Background Mediterranean spotted fever (MSF) is an acute febrile, zoonotic disease caused by Rickettsia conorii and transmitted to humans by the brown dogtick Rhipicephalus sanguineus. Nearly four hundred cases are reported every year (mainly from June to September) on the Italian island of Sicily. The aim of the study was to analyze the clinical and laboratory characteristics of patients with MSF and the efficacy of the drugs administered. Methods Our study was carried out on 415 children with MSF, during the period January 1997 – December 2004, at the "G. Di Cristina" Children's hospital in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. On admission patients' clinical history, physical and laboratory e…

NEO1 and NEO-EXT studies: Long-term safety of repeat avalglucosidase alfa dosing for 4.5 years in late-onset Pompe disease patients

2019

Safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and exploratory efficacy of repeat avalglucosidase alfa dosing (5, 10, or 20 mg/kg qow) for 6 months were evaluated in NEO1 (NCT01898364) in late-onset Pompe disease patients either treatment-naive (Naive) or having received alglucosidase alfa for ≥9 months (Switch). In NEO-EXT (NCT02032524), an ongoing NEO1 extension, long-term safety and pharmacokinetics of repeat avalglucosidase alfa dosing will be monitored over 6 years. Interim safety results after 4.5 years of NEO-EXT are reported here. Mean ages at NEO1 enrollment were: Naive: 44.8 (SD:20.3, range:20-78) years and Switch: 46.7 (SD:14.1, range:21-68) years. Of the 24 NEO1 parti…

I den folkliga modedräktens fotspår : bondekvinnors välstånd, ställning och modemedvetenhet i Gamlakarleby socken 1740-1800

2018

My research study deals with the wealth, social position, and fashion awareness of farmers’ wives in Gamlakarleby (Kokkola) parish in the latter half of the eighteenth century. In addition, I investigate the picture that present national costumes give about eighteenth century dressing. The aim is to examine farmer wives’ wealth in the villages of Karleby (Gamlakarleby socken) and the village of Nedervetil, which were part of the class society regulated by the Church Law of 1686 and the Swedish Civil Code enacted in 1734. The perspective of my research is microhistorical, which means that I study individual persons and phenomena in the villages of Gamlakarleby parish, and I mention the perso…

Hipster, preppy, girly... À propos des néologismes liés à la mode et de leur circulation en français et en tchèque

2018

The globalization, accelerating the language contact, facilitates greatly the circulation of neological expressions in unrelated languages. One of the areas with a significantly higher occurrence of neologisms is that of fashion and style. New words such as hipster, preppy and girly spread quickly in the Anglo-American culture and also invade the languages that this culture is in contact with, including French and Czech. Since this lexical field has not been studied in a comparative way, we decided to describe certain words related to the style in the two respective languages. Using a corpus based on our own knowledge of the topic and on the lexis found in the press, we try to describe the …
