A mathematical model for the simulation of physical-biological organic removal by means of a membrane bioreactor (MBR) has been previously developed and tested. This paper presents an analysis of the uncertainty of the MBR model. Particularly, the research explores the applicability of the Generalised Likelihood Uncertainty Estimation (GLUE) methodology that is one of the most widely used methods for investigating the uncertainties in the hydrology and that now on is spreading in other research field. Comparative analysis of vehicle to pole collision models established using analytical methods and neural networks

This paper presents a comparison between two modeling approaches of vehicle to pole collision. Firstly, analytical and curve fitting methods are explained and subsequently they are utilized to create lumped parameter models. Having parameters of such systems and their responses we proceed to brief description of the radial basis function neural network and its application to the linear models' coefficients' identification. Comparative analysis of the models formulated according to those two different manners is done. (6 pages)

In this paper, we described the Comprehensive Aerospace Index (CASI), a financial index aimed at representing the economic performance of the aerospace industry. CASI is build upon a data set of approximately 20 years of daily close prices set, from January 1987 to June 2007, from a comprehensive sample of leading aerospace-related companies with stocks negotiated on the New York Exchange (NYSE) and on the over-the-counter (OTC) markets. A new innovative cooling law for simulated annealing algorithms

The present paper proposes an original and innovative cooling law in the field of Simulated Annealing (SA) algorithms. Particularly, such a law is based on the evolution of different initial seeds on which the algorithm works in parallel. The efficiency control of the new proposal, executed on problems of different kind, shows that the convergence quickness by using such a new cooling law is considerably greater than that obtained by traditional laws. Furthermore, it is shown that the effectiveness of the SA algorithm arising from the proposed cooling law is independent of the problem type. This paper presents a new mathematical approach, which, when applied to conduction transfer functions (CTFs) of a multi-layered wall, is able to predict the reliability of building simulations. This new procedure can be used to identify the best set of CTF coefficients, which are a critical point at the core of the ASHRAE calculation methodology founded on the transfer function method.
