Simulation of stability and dynamics of multistage flash desalination

gPROMS software was used to study the dynamics of a multistage flash desalination brine circulation system (MSF-BR) as a function of major operating parameters. Most of the previous studies focused on MSF-BR dynamic model development however; it gave very little information on dynamic response of the system to the most significant process independent parameters. The present model was first validated against available industrial data of different plants. System dynamics were obtained upon increasing/decreasing several of the operating parameters over a range of ± 15%. Steady State and Dynamic Models of Multistage Flash Desalination: A Review

This article focuses on a review of literature studies on steady state and dynamic modeling of the multistage flash desalination process (MSF). The review shows that both steady state and dynamic models are based on lumped parameter approach. Differences in literature models are found in the assumptions used to model the flashing stage in addition to the correlations used to determine the heat transfer coefficients, thermodynamic losses, thermodynamic and transport properties. Compact instrumentation for radiation tolerance test of flash memories in space environment

Aim of this work is the description of a test equipment, designed to be integrated on board of a microsatellite, able to investigate the radiation tolerance of non-volatile memory arrays in a real flight experiment. An FPGA-based design was adopted to preserve a high flexibility degree. Besides standard Program/Read/Erase functions, additional features such as failure data screening and latch-up protection have been implemented. Abstract Italy produces approximately 4,520,000 tons of pasta annually, which is about 67% of its total productive potential. As factories need electric and thermal energy simultaneously, combined heat and power (CHP) systems are the most suitable. This paper describes a feasibility study of a CHP plant in a pasta factory in Italy while analyzing energy saving and environmental benefits. Commercially available CHP systems suitable for the power range of energy demand in pasta production use reciprocating engines or gas turbines. Two major techniques are commercially used in different parts of the world: distillation and membrane processes. The dominant distillation process is multi-stage flash (MSF), and the main membrane process is reverse osmosis (RO). Although cost factors vary by site, the total cost of producing potable water from seawater with the RO process is today usually less than thermal desalting processes and the economic advantages of RO vs. evaporation process, such as MSF, are responsible for the rapid increase in use of seawater RO. Multiresolution wavelet-based approach to identification of modal parameters of a vehicle full-scale crash test

In this work estimation of vehicle modal parameters was achieved by application of a wavelet-based method. The time-frequency analysis, which comprises those techniques that study a signal in both the time and frequency domains simultaneously, using Morlet wavelet properties are applied to the measured acceleration pulse of the colliding vehicle. Determination of the ridge of the wavelet coefficients matrix makes it possible to identify the frequency components of the recorded crash pulse. A high-portability numerical technique based on the method of free wake analysis (FWA) is described that analyzes the interference between an aircraft propeller and a wing having different planforms and computes the influence of the wing aerodynamic field on the propeller performance. For an isolated propeller and wing, the models employed are based on the FWA and Prandtl theory, respectively. On Detection of Yaw and Roll Angle Information for Vehicle Oblique Crash using Hough Transform

When performing vehicle crash tests, it is common to capture high frame rate video (HFR) to observe the vehicle motion during the impact. Such videos contain a lot of information, especially when it comes to geometric data. The yaw and roll angles from the HFR video is detected by using the Hough Transform and Matlab's Image processing Toolbox. The measured Yaw angle from the HFR video are compared with real life test data captured with a gyroscopic device inside the vehicle during the oblique vehicle impact.

This study focuses on modeling the steady state and dynamic behavior of the multistage flash desalination process (MSF) using gPROMS. This modeling tool allows for simultaneous coding of the system dynamics and steady state performance. In addition, it allows the use of the most efficient solvers for a set of non-linear differential and algebraic equations describing the MSF process.
