Risk Assessment for Complications of Partial Nephrectomy – Comparative Study between Retroperitoneoscopic Approach and Open Surgery

Introduction. Partial nephrectomy represent the standard of care for small renal tumor. Laproscopic approach tends to replace open surgery due to similar oncologic results, but with better eastethic outcomes and earlier socio-professional reintegration. Material and methods. Between January 2010 and February 2017, 55 patients (p) underwent partial nephrectomy at our center for clinically localized renal tumor, 21p with LPN by retroperitoneal approach and 34p with OPN. Objectives To assess cognitive functioning in patients affected by beta-thalassemia major (beta-th) by using a neuropsychological battery, and to identify clinical correlates. Material and methods Forty-six beta-th patients and 46 controls similar for age, sex, and education participated in the study. All subjects performed a comprehensive neuropsychological battery including tests of abstract reasoning, attention, executive functions, language, constructional/visuospatial skills, and memory. Assessment of neurocognitive functioning is a critical task in clinical settings. In many disorders, cognitive impairment precedes the onset of behavioral symptoms, and cognitive decline is a major factor contributing to functional disability. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the executive functions by comparing the evaluations obtained using a neuropsychological battery with the one obtained using the virtual reality version of the Multiple Errands Test (V-MET).
