Abstract Discussions concerning if and how immigrants should acculturate into Finnish society have become popular especially in the aftermath of the refugee crisis. Despite the abundance of research on acculturation preferences of majority members towards immigrant groups, research on the stability of majority acculturation preferences in adolescence does not exist. Abstract Trace elements selenium, copper, and zinc are essential minerals for the human body. One of the means to increase the micronutrient content in diets is to add them to food raw materials, for example, to enrich grain with micronutrients during malt production. To obtain rye malt, 3 kg grain was soaked in 10 l water with addition of three mineral salts — sodium selenate (Na2SeO4), copper sulphate (CuSO4 5H2O), and zinc sulphate (ZnSO4 7H2O) at different concentrations and different combination of salts. The soil bacterium Cupriavidus metallidurans CH34 resist selenite by reducing it into the insoluble and less toxic elemental selenium. Two mechanisms of reduction of selenium oxides in C. metallidurans CH34 were highlighted: assimilation leading to organic species and detoxification leading to precipitation of selenite in nanoparticules of elemental selenium. Summary Plants of Sinapis alba (white mustard) grown under strong light conditions have a higher content of soluble reducing sugars, of soluble proteins and a higher dry wight during growth from germination to flowering. Furthermore, in these plants the nitrate reductase activity is essentially higher during the vegetative development, but before the beginning of the flowering phase the activity is less than the level of plants grown under low light intensities. The results obtained indicate a direct correlation between nitrate reductase activity and the content of soluble proteins. This paper offers a contrastive analysis of Indian captivity narratives and the Native American boarding-school experience. Indian captivity narratives describe the ordeals of white women and men, kidnapped by Indians, who were separated from their families and subsequently lived months or even years with Indian tribes. The Native American boarding-school experience, which began in the late nineteenth century, took thousands of Indian children from their parents for the purpose of “assimilation to civilization” to be facilitated through governmental schools, thereby creating a captivity of a different sort. AbstractMetabolons represent the structural organization of proteins for metabolic or regulatory pathways. Here the interaction of enzymes fumarase FumB and aspartase AspA with the C4-DC transporters DcuA and DcuB of Escherichia coli was tested by a bacterial two-hybrid (BACTH) assay in situ, or by co-chromatography (mSPINE). DcuB interacted strongly with FumB and AspA, and DcuA with AspA. The fumB-dcuB and the dcuA-aspA genes encoding the respective proteins are known for their colocalization on the genome and the production of co-transcripts. Abstract In this investigation, the effect of bialaphos (phosphinothricyl-alanyl-alanine) on the enzymes involved in NH4 +-assimilation - glutamine synthetase, glutamine-2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase, glutamate dehydrogenase - is examined and compared to the effect of phosphinothricin (glufosinate) on the same enzymes. Bialaphos was given to whole plants (in vivo) and to leaf homogenate (in vitro). The investigation showed that bialaphos has an inhibiting effect on glutamine synthetase in vivo, but not in vitro. In contrast to this, phosphinothricin inhibits glutamine synthetase in vitro as well as in vivo. It was found that bialaphos, similar to phosphinothricin, does not inhibit glutami…
