Modulations of corticospinal excitability following rapid ankle dorsiflexion in skill- and endurance-trained athletes
2022
Abstract Purpose Long-term sports training, such as skill and endurance training, leads to specific neuroplasticity. However, it remains unclear if muscle stretch-induced proprioceptive feedback influences corticospinal facilitation/inhibition differently between skill- and endurance-trained athletes. This study investigated modulation of corticospinal excitability following rapid ankle dorsiflexion between well-trained skill and endurance athletes. Methods Ten skill- and ten endurance-trained athletes participated in the study. Corticospinal excitability was tested by single- and paired-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulations (TMS) at three different latencies following passive rapid ankl…
"You've got the color, but you dont't have the shades" : primary education CLIL teachers' identity negotiation within the Finnish context
2018
This dissertation explores how professional identity is experienced by teachers in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) instruction. In particular, it addresses professional identity in relation to two immediate contexts of teacher activity, i.e. that of the classroom and that of the collegial community. In addition to exploring how these two sides of the professional self give rise to a broader understanding of professional identity, this dissertation also explores aspects of professional agency and the negotiation of emotions in their work. The dissertation is founded on fourteen interviews with Finnish kindergarten and primary education teachers doing CLIL. The data were thema…
Veģetācijas saistība ar gruntsūdens ķīmisko sastāvu Toras upes piekrastē
2022

Tietojen kalastelu sosiaalisen median palveluissa
2014
Huusko, Tuija Tietojen kalastelu sosiaalisen median palveluissa Jyväskylä: Jyväskylän yliopisto, 2014, 33 s. Tietojärjestelmätiede, kandidaatintutkielma Ohjaaja: Veijalainen, Jari Tämän kandidaatintutkielman tarkoituksena on tutkia tietojen kalastelun keinoja sosiaalisen median palveluissa sekä menetelmiä, joilla voidaan suojautua tietojen kalastelulta. Sosiaalisen median hyödyntäminen on suu…

Production of word structures : a constraint-based study of 2;6 year old Finnish children at-risk for dyslexia and their controls
2003
This study investigates Finnish children's phonological acquisition from a constraint-based account. An aim was to construct a hierarchical model in which different levels from word, syllable, phonotactic through to phoneme level were taken into account. The model is implicatory indicating that prosodic elements govern phonotactical and phoneme level elements in the acquisition of word structures. Secondly, a purpose was to compare children at-risk for dyslexia (N=105) and their controls (N=91) in order to find possible early precursors of familial dyslexia. In addition, subgroups of late talkers were studied in order to explore the developmental aspect of acquisition of word structures. Cr…
Effects of aging and training on sprint performance, muscle structure and contractile function in athletes
2009
Cross-sectional studies were conducted to examine sprint running, anaerobic energy production and muscle properties in male sprinters aged 17-88 years. In addition, a 20-week training intervention was carried out to determine whether older runners can further improve their neuromuscular and performance characteristics by a greater emphasis on strength training. With age, sprint performance declined gradually (5-6%/decade). The slowing of maximum speed was characterized by a reduction in stride length and an increase in contact time along with lower ground reaction forces (GRF) and smaller leg and vertical stiffness during the contact phase. Stride frequency showed small decline while swing …
Hemoglobin mass and performance responses during 4 weeks of normobaric “live high–train low and high”
2023
Purpose To investigate whether 4 weeks of normobaric “live high–train low and high” (LHTLH) causes different hematological, cardiorespiratory, and sea-level performance changes compared to living and training in normoxia during a preparation season. Methods Nineteen (13 women, 6 men) cross-country skiers competing at the national or international level completed a 28-day period (∼18 h day−1) of LHTLH in normobaric hypoxia of ∼2400 m (LHTLH group) including two 1 h low-intensity training sessions per week in normobaric hypoxia of 2500 m while continuing their normal training program in normoxia. Hemoglobin mass (Hbmass) was assessed using a carbon monoxide rebreathing method. Time to exhaust…
Durability is improved by both low and high intensity endurance training
2023
Introduction: This is one of the first intervention studies to examine how low- (LIT) and high-intensity endurance training (HIT) affect durability, defined as ‘time of onset and magnitude of deterioration in physiological-profiling characteristics over time during prolonged exercise’.Methods: Sedentary and recreationally active men (n = 16) and women (n = 19) completed either LIT (average weekly training time 6.8 ± 0.7 h) or HIT (1.6 ± 0.2 h) cycling for 10 weeks. Durability was analyzed before and after the training period from three factors during 3-h cycling at 48% of pretraining maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max): 1) by the magnitude and 2) onset of drifts (i.e. gradual change in energy ex…
