Rufinamide in children and adults with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome: first Italian multicenter experience
2010
This is the first multicenter Italian experience with rufinamide as an adjunctive drug in children, adolescents and adults with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. The patients were enrolled in a prospective, add-on, open-label treatment study from 11 Italian centers for children and adolescent epilepsy care. Forty-three patients (26 males, 17 females), aged between 4 and 34 years (mean 15.9 ± 7.3, median 15.0), were treated with rufinamide for a mean period of 12.3 months (range 3-21 months). Twenty patients were diagnosed as cryptogenic and 23 as symptomatic. Rufinamide was added to the baseline therapy at the starting dose of 10mg/kg body weight, evenly divided in two daily doses and then increased…
Stroke care organization overcomes the deleterious ‘weekend effect’ on 1-month stroke mortality: a population-based study
2013
Background and purpose Suffering a stroke during the weekend is associated with a poorer prognosis. The impact of implementing a dedicated stroke care network in Dijon, France, in 2003 on 30-day mortality in strokes/transient ischaemic attacks (TIA) occurring during weekends/bank holidays was evaluated. Methods All cases of stroke and TIA from 1985 to 2010 were identified from a population-based registry, using multiple overlapping sources of information. Demographics and clinical data were recorded. Cox regression models were used to evaluate associations between day of onset (weekdays versus weekends/bank holidays) and 30-day all-cause mortality. Data were stratified according to time per…
Secondary prevention in patients with vascular disease. A population based study on the underuse of recommended medications.
2012
Objectives To investigate the premorbid use of secondary prevention medications in patients with recurrent vascular events. Design Prospective, observational, population based study. Setting The Dijon Stroke Registry and the registry of myocardial infarction of Dijon and Cote d9Or, France. Patients All patients with cerebral ischaemia (ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attacks) or coronary artery disease (CAD) and a history of vascular disease (cerebral ischaemia, CAD or peripheral arterial disease (PAD)) in Dijon, France from 2006 to 2010. Main outcome measures Data on medical history and prior use of treatments were collected. Mutivariate analyses were performed to identify predicto…
Neurological complications of Anderson-Fabry disease
2012
Characteristic clinical manifestations of AFD such as acroparesthesias, angiokeratoma, corneal opacity, hypo/ and anhidrosis, gastrointestinal symptoms, renal and cardiac dysfunctions can occur in male and female patients, although heterozygous females with AFD usually seems to be less severely affected. The most prominent CNS manifestations consist of cerebrovascular events such as transient ischaemic attacks (TIAs) and (recurrent) strokes . For the most part, CNS complications in AFD have been attributed to cerebral vasculopathy, including anatomical abnormalities. The natural history of Fabry patients includes transitory cerebral ischaemia and strokes, even in very young persons of both …
Aortopexy in esophageal atresia: Long-term experience of a parent support group
2001
Abstract Purpose: The aim of this study was to obtain the parents' view of aortopexy after esophageal atresia. Methods: A questionnaire was completed by the parents of 24 former patients, now aged from 1 to 15 years (average, 8.9; median, 9.0 years). The respondents were all members of a support group. Results: The median age of the patients receiving aortopexy was 4 months. The 24 procedures were performed in 16 different hospitals. The subjects had experienced a median of 3 apneic attacks. Technical complications occurred in 4 of the 24 children. In 71%, aortopexy was an immediate success. Conclusion: Despite its low success rate compared with centers with large cumulative experience, 90%…

SDN controllers security issues
2017
Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is essentially varying the way we design and manage networks, which makes a communication network programmable. In SDN, a logically centralized controller has straight control over the packet-handling functions of the network switches, using a standard, open API (Application Programming Interface) such as OpenFlow. OpenFlow is a broadly used protocol for software-defined networks (SDNs) that presents a new model in which the control plane is inattentive from the forwarding plane for the network devices. In SDN approach centralized entities called "controllers" perform like network operating systems run dissimilar applications that accomplish and control the…
Adversarial Machine Learning in e-Health: Attacking a Smart Prescription System
2022
Machine learning (ML) algorithms are the basis of many services we rely on in our everyday life. For this reason, a new research line has recently emerged with the aim of investigating how ML can be misled by adversarial examples. In this paper we address an e-health scenario in which an automatic system for prescriptions can be deceived by inputs forged to subvert the model's prediction. In particular, we present an algorithm capable of generating a precise sequence of moves that the adversary has to take in order to elude the automatic prescription service. Experimental analyses performed on a real dataset of patients' clinical records show that a minimal alteration of the clinical record…
Scenekunstens (for)handlingsrom etter 22. juli
2019
In this article I discuss theatre’s scope of action after the 2011 terror attacks in Norway (“22. July”), with an emphasis on independent theatre, aesthetic heteronomy and the public sphere. A theatre manager’s (Jon Refsdal Moe) retrospect account of and reflections upon a case of self-censoring is the starting point for my (re-)examination of the arguments and dynamics concerning some of the most prominent contentious 22. July performances. I discuss how the controversies can be understood and dealt with, and how they are connected to theatre’s scope of action and place in society today. In my argument, I differentiate between the public sphere as an arena for discussion and debate (which …
