Magnetic functionalities in MOFs: from the framework to the pore
2017
In this review, we show the different approaches so far developed to prepare Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) presenting electronic functionalities, with particular attention to magnetic properties. We will cover the chemical design of the framework necessary for the incorporation of different magnetic phenomena, as well as the encapsulation of functional species in the pores leading to hybrid multifunctional MOFs combining an extended lattice with a molecular lattice.
Qui suis-je : Discontinuity as part of teacher identity in Canadian French immersion
2020
The scarcity of research on French immersion teachers’ professional identity contrasts with the increasing popularity of French immersion programs in Canada and the concomitant need for French immersion teachers. This study explores the professional identity negotiation of four French immersion teachers in Alberta, Canada, with a focus on discontinuity. Semi-structured interviews conducted face-to-face with the participants were analysed using dialogic narrative analysis. The findings highlight how discontinuity is occasioned by a change in knowledge about the French immersion teaching as a profession, encountering classroom realities, shifting one’s values concerning second language learni…
CD38/CD31, the CCL3 and CCL4 chemokines, and CD49d/vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 are interchained by sequential events sustaining chronic lymphoc…
2009
AbstractCD38 and CD49d are associated negative prognosticators in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Despite evidence that both molecules are involved in interactions occurring between CLL and normal cells in the context of CLL-involved tissues, a functional link is still missing. Using gene expression profiles comparing CD38+CD49d+ versus CD38−CD49d− CLL cells, we showed overexpression of the CCL3 and CCL4 chemokines in cells from the former group. These chemokines were also up-regulated by CD38 signals in CLL; moreover, CCL3 was expressed by CLL cells from bone marrow biopsies (BMB) of CD38+CD49d+ but not CD38−CD49d− cases. High levels of CCR1 and, to a lesser extent, CCR5, the receptors…
The new iodoacetamidobenzofuran derivative TR120 decreases STAT5 expression and induces antitumor effects in imatinib-sensitive and imatinib-resistan…
2013
The identification of novel compounds modulating the expression/activity of molecular targets downstream to BCR-ABL could be a new approach in the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemias (CMLs) resistant to imatinib or other BCR-ABL-targeted molecules. Recently, we synthesized a new class of substituted 2-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoyl)-2-N,N-dimethylamino-benzo[b]furans, and among these 3-iodoacetylamino-6-methoxybenzofuran-2-yl(3,5-trimethoxyphenyl)methanone (TR120) showed marked cytotoxic activity in BCR-ABL-expressing cells. Interestingly, TR120 was more potent than imatinib in cell growth inhibition and apoptosis induction in both BCR-ABL-expressing K562 and KCL22 cells. Moreover, it showed a…
Head and neck cancer surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic: An international, multicenter, observational cohort study
2020
Background The aims of this study were to provide data on the safety of head and neck cancer surgery currently being undertaken during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods This international, observational cohort study comprised 1137 consecutive patients with head and neck cancer undergoing primary surgery with curative intent in 26 countries. Factors associated with severe pulmonary complications in COVID-19-positive patients and infections in the surgical team were determined by univariate analysis. Results Among the 1137 patients, the commonest sites were the oral cavity (38%) and the thyroid (21%). For oropharynx and larynx tumors, nonsurgical therapy was favored in…
A Novel Radiotherapeutic Approach to Treat Bulky Metastases Even From Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Its Rationale and a Look at the Reliability …
2022
IntroductionMetastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is a very rare condition. The lack of definition of an oligometastatic subgroup means that there is no consensus for its treatment, unlike the mucosal head and neck counterpart. Like the latter, the cutaneous form is able to develop bulky tumor masses. When this happens, the classic care approach is just for palliative intent due to a likely unfavorable benefit–risk balance typical of aggressive treatments. Here we proposed a novel radiotherapy (RT) technique to treat bulky metastases from cSCC in the context of an overall limited tumor burden and tried to explain its clinical outcome by the currently available mathematical rad…
Altered CD94/NKG2A and perforin expression reduce the cytotoxic activity in malignant pleural effusions.
2010
CD94/NKG2A is an inhibitory receptor expressed by NK cells and cytotoxic lymphocytes and, upon activation by HLA-E, downregulates the cytolytic activities of these cells thus representing a tumour immune escape mechanism. This study was aimed at assessing whether cytotoxic lymphocytes (CD8+) and NK cells from malignant pleural effusions have a deregulated expression of CD94/NKG2A. The expression of membrane CD94/NKG2A and perforin was evaluated by flow-cytometry in CD8+ and NK cells from pleural effusions and autologous peripheral blood of cancer (n=19) and congestive heart failure (CHF) (n=11) patients. Intracellular CD94/NKG2A expression was evaluated by flow-cytometry in pleural effusion…
Galangin increases the cytotoxic activity of imatinib mesylate in imatinib-sensitive and imatinib-resistant Bcr-Abl expressing leukemia cells
2008
Resistance to imatinib mesylate is an emergent problem in the treatment of Bcr-Abl expressing myelogenous leukemias and additional therapeutic strategies are required. We observed that galangin, a non-toxic, naturally occurring flavonoid was effective as anti-proliferative, and apoptotic agent in Bcr-Abl expressing K562 and KCL22 cells and in imatinib mesylate resistant K562-R and KCL22-R cells. Galangin induced an arrest of cells in G0–G1phase of cell cycle and a decrease in pRb, cdk4, cdk1, cycline B levels; moreover, it was able to induce a monocytic differentiation of leukemic Bcr-Abl+ cells. Of note, galangin caused a decrease in Bcl-2 levels and markedly increased the apoptotic activi…
