Unveiling Neuromarketing and Its Research Methodology

2022

Neuromarketing is the union of cognitive psychology, which studies mental processes, neurology and neurophysiology, which study the functioning and responses of the brain and body physiology to external stimuli, and marketing, which studies valuable exchanges, to explain marketing effects on customers’ and consumers’ behaviours and on buying and decision processes. It includes a set of research techniques that, by observing and evaluating how the brain and other body parts respond, avoids possible biases and provides truthful and objective information on consumer subconscious. The term “consumer neuroscience” covers academic approaches using techniques such as fMRI, Eye Tracking, or EED. Th…

Midlife in the United States (MIDUS 2), 2004-2006

2007

In 1995-1996, the MacArthur Midlife Research Network carried out a national survey of 7,108 Americans aged 25 to 74 (MIDLIFE IN THE UNITED STATES (MIDUS), 1995-1996 [ICPSR 2760]). The purpose of the study was to investigate the role of behavioral, psychological, and social factors in understanding age-related differences in physical and mental health. The study was innovative for its broad scientific scope, its diverse samples (which included twins and the siblings of main sample respondents), and its creative use of in-depth assessments in key areas (e.g., daily stress and cognitive functioning). A description of the study and findings from it are available at http://www.midus.wisc.edu. Wi…

Patterns of teachers’ self-efficacy and attitudes toward inclusive education associated with teacher emotional support, collective teacher efficacy, …

2023

Teacher self-reports were used to investigate patterns of their self-efficacy and attitudes toward inclusive education in association with teacher emotional support, collective teacher efficacy, and collegial collaboration. Data included a sample of 100 Norwegian upper secondary school teachers from a mixed-methods cluster randomised controlled trial study. Latent profile analysis identified four subgroups: Low Self-Efficacy, Mid Attitudes (n = 19); High in All (n = 15); Mid Self-Efficacy, Low Attitudes (n = 36); and High Self-Efficacy, Mid Attitudes (n = 30). Teachers in the High in All profile reported being the most emotionally supportive, while the highest levels of collective efficacy …

The division of domestic work among dual-career and other dual-earner couples in Finland

2015

This study compares the division of domestic work among dual-career and other dual-earner couples. We examine whether gender attitudes, relative resources and working time explain the differences between dual-career and other dual-earner couples. We define dual-career couples as those in which both spouses are professionals and/or managers. The division of housework is important for these couples because of the intense pressures of work. We hypothesise that domestic work is more equally shared among dual-career couples than among other dual-earner couples. The quantitative analyses are based on the Finnish data from the 2010 European Social Survey (N = 493). The qualitative data consist of …

International students' language use and attitudes towards English and Finnish

2014

2005

Maahanmuuttajien määrän lisääntyminen Suomessa 1990-luvulta lähtien ja samaan aikaan tapahtunut yhteiskunnallinen murros näkyvät koulun arjessa. Näiden asioiden myötä opettajan yhteiskunnallinen vastuu on lisääntynyt. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa opettajien monikulttuurisia valmiuksia ylläpitää erilaisten oppijoiden arvokkuutta. Opettajan selkiintynyt minäkuva, arvomaailma ja ammatillisuus mahdollistavat myönteisen suhtautumisen elämään ja työhön. Opettajan työ helpottuu, jos koulun ilmapiiri tukee erilaisuuden hyväksymistä opettajien välisen, opettaja-oppilas -välisen sekä koulun ja vanhempien välisen avoimen vuorovaikutuksen kautta. Tutkimus on jatkotutkimus Talibin aikaisemma…

Finnish upper secondary school students' views of foreign languages : motivation, attitudes and beliefs

2012

Vieraiden kielien osaamisen merkitys on kasvanut globalisoituneessa maailmassa. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoitus on selvittää lukion opiskelijoiden asenteita, kokemuksia, odotuksia ja uskomuksia eri vieraita kieliä kohtaan. Toinen kotimainen kieli lasketaan vieraiden kielten joukkoon tässä tutkimuksessa. Englannin kieli on korostetussa asemassa sen kansainvälisen tärkeyden takia, ja siihen paneudutaan tutkimuksessa muita kieliä enemmän. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin kaksiosaisella kyselylomakkeella syksyllä 2011 Jyväskylässä. Kaikki vastaajat (N= 58) olivat lukion toisen vuosikurssin A1-englannin opiskelijoita. Tulokset osoittivat, että vastaajilla oli ylivoimaisesti kaikkein positiivisimmat asente…

Electromyographic Studies in Abdominal Exercises: A Literature Synthesis

2008

Abstract Objective The purpose of this article is to synthesize the literature on studies that investigate electromyographic activity of abdominal muscles during abdominal exercises performance. Methods MEDLINE and Sportdiscus databases were searched, as well as the Web pages of electronic journals access, ScienceDirect, and Swetswise, from 1950 to 2008. The terms used to search the literature were abdominal muscle and the specific names for the abdominal muscles and their combination with electromyography, and/or strengthening, and/or exercise, and/or spine stability, and/or low back pain. The related topics included the influence of the different exercises, modification of exercise positi…

Nonadherence in outpatient thrombosis prophylaxis with low molecular weight heparins after major orthopaedic surgery

2010

Background: According to some current guidelines, extended thromboprophylaxis after hip and knee arthroplasties is recommended. Outpatient prophylaxis with low molecular weight heparins (LMWH) is an important part of this prophylaxis, although the rates of adherence to these regimens is not known. Questions/purposes: We determined (1) the degree of nonadherence (NA) of patients with LMWH outpatient prophylaxis, and (2) whether specific independent factors explain NA. Methods: NA was determined by syringe count and by indirect and direct questions to patients. We defined six different NA indicators. To identify factors explaining LMWH NA, we used three different logistic regression models. R…
