In chronic active hepatitis (CAH, n=58) 70% of the HBsAg negative and 48% of the HBsAg positive cases showed a CMI against human liver specific proteins (HLPI). Using HBsAg as antigen only 12% of the HBsAg negative and 24% of the HBsAg positive cases gave a CMI response. On the basis of HBsAg and autoantibodies in the serum CAH patients could be divided into 4 subgroups. A close correlation between CMI against HLPI, sex, ANA and HL-A-8 could be detected. Anti-rat liver microsomal and cytosolic antibodies in hepatitis C virus infection.

In order to assess the frequency of autoimmunity markers in hepatitis C virus infection, 229 RIBA 2 HCV positive individuals were tested by ELISA and Immunoblot assay using as antigen rat liver microsomal and cytosolic proteins. Twenty-one out of 229 individuals (9%) showed anti-rat liver microsome antibodies by ELISA, but the titre was low (1:100 to 1:1,600). In Immunoblot, only 5 of these 21 ELISA positive sera recognized also rat liver microsomal proteins (MW between 30 to 64 kDa). Antibodies against rat liver cytosolic proteins were found by ELISA in 14 out of 229 individuals (6%). Three of them showed a reactivity in Immunoblot to 42 kDa or 55 kDA proteins. Here we present data on the induction of a humoral anti-T cell response by T cell vaccination, capable of strongly inhibiting T cell proliferation and of ameliorating experimental autoimmune disease. A20/TNFAIP3 is an ubiquitin-editing enzyme, important for the regulation of the NF-κB pathway. Mutations in the TNFAIP3 gene have been linked to different human autoimmune disorders. In human B-cell lymphomas, the inactivation of A20 results in constitutive NF-κB activation. Recent studies demonstrate that in mice the germline inactivation of A20 leads to early lethality, due to inflammation in multiple organs of the body. Cross-reactivity between type II collagen (CII) and C1q, the collagen-like subunit of the first component of complement, has been demonstrated in synovial fluid (SF) from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Many authors have studied autoimmunity to CII in RA, but little work has been done on autoimmunity to C1q in RA. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed for the detection of 1 subtype of mitochondrial antibodies (AMA) specific for chronic cholestatic inflammatory liver diseases.
