Penser la frontière entre essai et autobiographie à partir de la bande dessinée. Are You My Mother? d'Alison Bechdel
2018
Based on Alison Bechdel's autobiographical essay Are You My Mother?, this article is a discussion on two boundaries of the essay : a generic boundary between essay and autobiography, questioned by the possibility of autobiographical essay, and an intermedial boundary challenged by the development of graphic essays in comics. Are You My Mother? is a self-reflexive autobiographical work which describes the author's discovery of psychoanalysis and deals at the same time with mother-child relationships and the continuity between novel writing, autobiography and psychoanalysis, thus articulating autobiographical material and general thoughts. Farce and wit prove compelling instruments of ridicule and apt ways to circumvent the constraints of his milieu. Yet their dominance in the communal portrait hints at Kavanagh’s failure to overcome his suffering from …

The (im)possible success of disadvantaged students. Reflections on education, migration and social change
2019
The paper focuses on the ?unexpected pathways? of successful students with an immigrant background: these biographical routes, that seems socially impossible, raise theoretical issues around the individual-society, actor-structure relationship. Disadvantaged students who succeed represent a sociological challenge in the attempt to understand atypical situations and to identify the institutional processes and the structural opportunities that facilitate them, reducing ethnic inequalities in education. This framework is the starting point of the Su.Per. project (Success in educational pathways of students with immigrant background), based on the collection of written autobiographies of 65 imm…
