The article intends to synthetically reconstruct a line of development of the Italian narrative contemporary, from the nineties onwards, based on the concept of authenticity, vast and rich in applications in the most disparate fields (juridical, philosophical, artistic). After a brief review of four emblematic cases for the use of authenticity rhetoric (Siti, Moresco, Mozzi, non-fiction), the article offers a brief overview of the narrative of last twenty years. The aim of the paper is to analyze the narrative and photographic thresholds of Leggenda privata by Michele Mari (2017). The first case is a rhetorical artifice, a horror-gothic-fantastic narrative threshold, that Mari creates to distinguish the present of writing from the past of memories, intended, as I will try to demonstrate, to problematize the crucial questions of autobiography: incipit and explicit of the narration, literature and bios, fiction and non-fiction. This thesis addresses the relationship between writing about oneself, writing about History and how three contemporary authors – Serge Doubrovsky, Georges Perec and Jorge Semprun – fictionalized themselves. The first two sections’ aim is to establish biographical, historical and literary guidelines, indispensable to the better comprehension of an individual, an era and a literary landscape. This dissertation explores how Pedro Juan Gutiérrez's fiction corresponds to the Castrocommunist utopia. The study has three goals: (1) to explain how Castro-communism has formed, altered and impacted on Cuban literature; (2) to investigate how Gutiérrez's fiction corresponds to the Castro-communist utopia and ideals; and (3) how his parodic (anti)detective story Nuestro GG en La Habana (2004) is based on and relates to Cuban socialist detective stories, Graham Greene's spy farce Our Man in Havana, Castro-communist historiography and the social, ideological and economic shifts in Cuban society during the 1990s.
