Automatic cell nuclei counting: a protocol to acquire images and to compare results between color and multispectral images

2013

International audience; High-throughput screening in histology and analysis need a necessary automatic cell or nucleus counting. Current methods and systems based on grayscale or color images give results with counting errors. We suggest to use multispectral imaging (with more than three bands) rather than color one for nucleus counting. A traditional acquisition chains uses a source of white light and a CCD camera in addition to the optical microscope. To pass to a multispectral acquisition, we use a Programmable Light Source (PLS) in the place of the white light source. This PLS is capable of generating different wavelengths in the visible spectrum. So, one color image and four multispect…

Assessing the electricity consumption of outdoor lighting systems in the presence of automatic control: The OL-BAC factors method

2020

Abstract Building automation systems are able to influence significantly buildings’ energy performance. The BAC factors method, presented for the first time by the International Standard EN 15232, is the most used and simple instrument for evaluating the impact of such systems in terms of reduction of the electrical and thermal energy consumption of buildings services. Nevertheless, Standard EN 15232 does not take into consideration the automation of lighting systems serving buildings’ external areas like passages, gardens, entrance walkways, etc. In some cases, such areas can be very extended and, as a consequence, responsible for a not negligible percentage of the overall electricity cons…

Automātiskā finanšu informācijas apmaiņa kā instruments cīņā pret nodokļu nemaksāšanu Latvijā

2019

Automatic subgenre classification of heavy metal music

2011

Automatic genre classification of music has been of interest for researchers over a decade. Many success-ful methods and machine learning algorithms have been developed achieving reasonably good results. This thesis explores automatic sub-genre classification problem of one of the most popular meta-genres, heavy metal. To the best of my knowledge this is the first attempt to study the issue. Besides attempting automatic classification, the thesis investigates sub-genre taxonomy of heavy metal music, highlighting the historical origins and the most prominent musical features of its sub-genres. For classification, an algorithm proposed in (Barbedo & Lopes, 2007) was modified and implemented i…

Mathematical Methods in Image Processing and Computer Vision

2016

Image processing and computer vision are growing research fields that take advantage of the increasing power or modern computers linked with sophisticated techniques coming from many fields of expertise and in particular from mathematics. We present an introduction to some problems in computer vision and image processing and to some mathematical techniques and concepts that are nowadays routinely used to approach them.

Gain scheduling automatic landing system by modeling Ground Effect

2014

Taking ground effect into account a longitudinal automatic landing system is designed. Such a system will be tested and implemented on board by using the Preceptor N3 Ultrapup aircraft which is used as technological demonstrator of new control navigation and guidance algorithms in the context of the “Research Project of National Interest” (PRIN 2008) by the Universities of Bologna, Palermo, Ferrara and the Second University of Naples. A general mathematical model of the studied aircraft has been built to obtain non–linear analytical equations for aerodynamic coefficients both Out of Ground Effect and In Ground Effect. To cope with the strong variations of aerodynamic coefficients In Ground …

A New Kinematic and Dynamic Direct Adaptive Fuzzy Control of Constrained Mobile Wheeled Vehicles

2005

In this paper a new kinematic and dynamic adaptive Fuzzy control is applied to a trajectory tracking problem of a constrained vehicle with two indipendent wheels. The vehicle dynamics and kinematics are completely unknown. A dynamical and kinematical adaptive control provide to on line estimation of the dynamic and kinematic parameters of the vehicle model. Moreover the parameters of the kinematic control law are obtained using a Fuzzy controller and they are time varying and dependent on tracking errors. The stabililty of the kinematic and dynamic adaptive Fuzzy control system and the convergence of tracking errors to zero are proved using Lyapunov's method and Barbalat's Lemma. The effect…

Contribution to the cooperative management of conflictual spaces between autonomous vehicles

2017

The continuous increase in the number of vehicles has constantly led to innovation to improve the regulation of road traffic. Today, vehicle automation and inter-vehicular communication make possible a new approach: the autonomous and cooperative intersection (ACI) in which autonomous vehicles communicate to negotiate their right of way at the intersection. Theoretically more effective, safer and more economical than traditional approaches, its implementation and deployment constitute a scientific and technological challenge. In this paper, we propose several contributions supporting this development: a longitudinal and lateral vehicle control strategy designed to work with information disc…

Representable and Continuous Functionals on Banach Quasi *-Algebras

2017

In the study of locally convex quasi *-algebras an important role is played by representable linear functionals; i.e., functionals which allow a GNS-construction. This paper is mainly devoted to the study of the continuity of representable functionals in Banach and Hilbert quasi *-algebras. Some other concepts related to representable functionals (full-representability, *-semisimplicity, etc) are revisited in these special cases. In particular, in the case of Hilbert quasi *-algebras, which are shown to be fully representable, the existence of a 1-1 correspondence between positive, bounded elements (defined in an appropriate way) and continuous representable functionals is proved.
