Vector Projection-based Sensorless Control of a SynRM Drive Including Self and Cross-Saturation
2022
This paper presents a sensorless technique for SynRM drives that is based on a vector projection method and takes into consideration the magnetic saturation of the motor, both the self and the cross-saturation. The proposed method is based on the dynamic equation of the SynRM including saturation, rewritten in integral form, and does not involve any high-frequency carrier injection. The technique has been tested in numerical simulation and experimentally on a suitably developed test set-up. Experimental results show a correct behavior of the sensorless SynRM drive, properly accomplishing speed transients in a wide speed range, including low speed, still maintaining a good accuracy in the sp…

3D DATA INTEGRATION FOR WEB BASED OPEN SOURCE WebGL INTERACTIVE VISUALISATION
2022
Abstract. Recent advances in open-source geospatial technologies in WebGIS allowed the visualization of a 3D complex environment on the web, exploiting realistic Globe reproduction of the real territorial asset. At the same time, in the field of gaming technologies, the new possibilities offered by open-source WebGL JavaScript libraries allowed the creation of Virtual Reality navigation models on the web. The integration between 3D GIS globe navigation models and VR environment navigation is a solution that offers a further level of detail in web navigation, exploiting the capabilities of web browsers in the best way. This research further contributes to this field, showing a workflow to in…
A Cognitive Tuning of Contention Windows in WiFi Infrastructure Networks
2009
In WiFi networks, mobile nodes compete for accessing a shared channel by means of a random access protocol called Distributed Coordination Function (DCF). Although this protocol is in principle fair, since it should guarantee that all the stations have the same probability to transmit on the channel, it has been shown that unfair behaviors may emerge in actual networking scenarios. These phenomena are due to different reasons, including non-standard configurations of the nodes, critical network topologies, and short-term performance observations. In this paper we propose a game-theoretic approach for defining an enhanced DCF scheme suitable for WiFi intelligent nodes employing cognitive fun…
Adaptive Feed-Forward Neural Network for Wind Power Delivery
2022
This paper describes a grid connected wind energy conversion system. The interconnecting filter is a simple inductor with a series resistor to minimize three-phase current Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). Using the Recursive Least Squares (RLS) Estimator, an online grid impedance technique is proposed in the stationary reference frame using the Recursive Least Squares (RLS) Estimator. An Adaptive Feedforward Neural (AFN) Controller has also been developed using the inverse of the system to improve the performance of the current Proportional-Integral controller under dynamical conditions and provide better DC link voltage stability. The neural network weights are computed in real-time using …
Toward a Society of Robots: Behavior, Misbehavior, and Security
2010
In this article, we consider how a very large numbers of robots, differing in their bodies, sensing, and intelligence, may be made to coexist, communicate, and compete fairly toward achieving their individual goals, i.e., to build a society of robots. We discuss some characteristics that the rules defining acceptable social behaviors should possess. We consider threats that may be posed to such a society by the misbehaviors of some of its members, either due to faults or malice, and the possibility to detect and isolate them through cooperation of peers. The article presents examples of motion control protocols, for arbitrarily large groups of heterogeneous robots. We discuss intrusion dete…

An Automatic Method for PET Delineation of Cervical Tumors
2015
Aim: PET imaging is increasingly utilized for radiation treatment planning. Nevertheless, accurate segmentation of PET images is a complex and unresolved problem. Aim of this work is the development of an automatic segmentation method of Biological Target Volume (BTV) in patients with cervical cancer. Materials and methods: Random walks (RW) is a graph-based method that represents a DICOM (Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine) image as a graph. The voxels are its nodes and the edges are defined by a cost function which maps a change in image intensity to edge weights. Then, RW partitions the nodes into target and background subsets. To create an automatic method starting from prev…
Automatic image representation and clustering on mobile devices.
2010
In this paper a novel approach for the automatic representation of pictures on mobile devices is proposed. With the wide diffusion of mobile digital image acquisition devices, the need of managing a large number of digital images is quickly increasing. In fact the storage capacity of such devices allow users to store hundreds or even thousands, of pictures that, without a proper organization, become useless. Users may be interested in using (i.e., browsing, saving, printing and so on) a subset of stored data according to some particular picture properties. A content-based description of each picture is needed to perform on-board image indexing. In our work the images are analyzed and descri…
