The parties free will in chosen filiation

2014

A cumbersome process combined with fewer adoptable children impedes French demands for adoption which results in the potential parents seeking solutions abroad. Resorting to optional filiation through international adoption or surrogacy leads prospective French parents or actual candidates, to enter multiple contracts. This contractualization of optional filiations has surprisingly swept across France, clashing against principles of French law calling for a protection of the personal status and capacity by keeping them out of contracts. This study on freedom of will within the process of optional filiation highlights the tension between the prospective and also the biological parents', and …

The notion of physical and moral well-being : relationship and interaction in George Eliot's literary works

2020

This dissertation analyzes the concept of well-being in the writings of George Eliot in order to account for the question of the individual in his/her relationships with the other and others such as animals and the environment so as to obtain physical, moral as well as personal and social well-being along the resulting ethics and aesthetics. For the novelist, well-being finds its source in the individuals’ suffering in British nineteenth-century society. Conceiving well-being from Eliot’s point of view therefore means giving priority to individual relationships and interactions. This relational vision of well-being amounts to considering the social regularities related to community life, th…

Narcisse et Pygmalion : le peintre fou dans la littérature fantastique romantique

2012

This article examines the relationship between creation and self-esteem, through the analysis of five nineteenth century narratives, The Jesuit Church in Glogau and The Devil's Elixirs by E. T. A. Hoffmann, The Oval Portrait by Edgar Poe, The Unknown Masterpiece by Honoré de Balzac and Walter Eisenberg by Konstantin Aksakov. However, from an Christian and moral point of view, self-esteem happens to be doubly condemned: it leads human beings away from God and other people. Therefore, the point is to determine if romantic narratives succeed in defying this pattern and create self-sufficient artists able to …
