Application and biological impact of endophytic bacteria as IAA producers

2020

Endophytic bacteria are well known in modern microbiology. Their role is well recognized, although there are lots of questions to answer. According to the knowledge that we actually possess it is possible to use them as components of biocide preparations used in plant growing. Between different features of endophytic bacteria, those able to produce IAA are very interesting in a context of agricultural and horticultural plant production. However, it is very important to precisely describe all the features of IAA producers, because there is a thin border between beneficial and pathogenic mode of action. For this reason it is crucial to recognize pathways involved in IAA production and the who…

Importance of endophytic strains Pantoea agglomerans in the biological control of Rhizoctonia solani

2018

Antagonistic activity of microorganisms against phytopathogens is mainly the results of plants’ health improvement due to the inhibition of pathogens growth and the induction of plants resistance against diseases. The aim of the research was to determine antagonistic properties of Pantoea agglomerans against Rhizoctonia solani. The properties of two strains P. agglomerans BC17 and BC45 were assessed according to the following criteria: mycelial growth of R. solani in the presence of bacterial metabolites, an impact of P. agglomerans on the growth of sugar beet in the pots containing soil with and addition of R. solani and without it, the ability to produce indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). It has…

In vitro rooting and acclimatization of Sicilian Hypericum perforatum

2015

Hypericum perforatum L. is traditionally used as a medicinal plant because of different bioactive compounds with documented antidepressant and anti-inflammatory activities. Plantlets mass production with high content of these secondary metabolites has been enhanced through in vitro culture but often the process has been stopped at the multiplication phase. A study was conducted in order to set up an efficient in vitro rooting and acclimatization protocol of a H. perforatum Sicilian genotype well-adapted to south Mediterranean conditions. Aseptic nodal segments were cultured on to a Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium supplemented with 4.44 μM 6-benzyladenine (BA) for multiplication. Micro…

Expression Patterns of Key Hormones Related to Pea (Pisum sativum L.) Embryo Physiological Maturity Shift in Response to Accelerated Growth Conditions

2019

Protocols have been proposed for rapid generation turnover of temperate legumes under conditions optimized for day-length, temperature, and light spectra. These conditions act to compress time to flowering and seed development across genotypes. In pea, we have previously demonstrated that embryos do not efficiently germinate without exogenous hormones until physiological maturity is reached at 18 days after pollination (DAP). Sugar metabolism and moisture content have been implicated in the modulation of embryo maturity. However, the role of hormones in regulating seed development is poorly described in legumes. To address this gap, we characterized hormonal profiles (IAA, chlorinated auxin…

Production of indole acetic acid by endophytic Bacillus strains

2018

Celem pracy by³o wyizolowanie i scharakteryzowanie bakterii endofitycznych korzeni buraka cukrowego pod k¹tem ich zdolnooeci do produkcji kwasu indolilooctowego (IAA). Materia³ dooewiadczalny do izolacji bakterii endofitycznych stanowi³y korzenie burak cukrowego.

Effects of NAA and Ecklonia maxima Extracts on Lettuce and Tomato Transplant Production

2022

Ecklonia maxima and the commercial biostimulants produced from it contain various plant growth regulators that are responsible for the growth stimulation recorded in many crops. Auxins are one of the major plant growth regulators contained in E. maxima extracts. The aim of this research was to evaluate the growth-promoting effect of a seaweed extract from E. maxima on lettuce and tomato transplant production under nursery conditions, and to compare the effect of this extract with an equal concentration of synthetic auxin. Two doses of natural or synthetic exogenous auxins (50 or 100 μg L−1) were supplied to the substrate through the irrigation water with an ebb and flow system, 4, …
