In Vitro Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activity of Extracts from Morus alba L. Leaves, Stems and Fruits

In this study, the aqueous and ethanolic extracts (leaves, stems and fruits) from Morus alba L., a traditional Chinese medicine, were evaluated for their antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Ethanolic extracts showed higher contents of both total phenolics and flavonoids than aqueous extracts. The total phenolic content was in the order of: leaf extracts > fruit extracts > stem extracts, whereas the total flavonoids was: leaf extracts > stem extracts > fruit extracts. Using DPPH assays, the concentrations providing 50% inhibition (IC50) values of aqueous extracts from leaves, stems and fruits were 7.11 ± 1.45 mg/ml, 86.78 ± 3.21 mg/ml and 14.38 ± 2.83 mg/ml, respectively, …

Variation in contents of main active components and antioxidant activity in leaves of different pigeon pea cultivars during growth.

Pigeon pea is an important and multiuse grain legume crop, and its leaves are a very valuable natural resource. To obtain a high-quality biological resource, it is necessary to choose the excellent cultivar and determine the appropriate harvest time. In this study, the variation in contents of main active components and antioxidant activity in leaves of six pigeon pea cultivars during growth were investigated. The level of each individual active component significantly varied during growth, but with a different pattern, and this variation was different among cultivars. Phytochemical study of Cistus libanotis L.

n continuation of our ongoing study on Mediterranean Flora, we focused the attention on Cistus genus. These plants possess interesting secondary metabolites and are used in many fields, principally in perfumery and more recently as raw material for food supplements (botanicals). n this article, we report the phytochemical analysis of Cistus libanotis L. from Tunisia. Velocity measurements in the liquid metal flow driven by a two-phase inductor

We present the results of velocity measurements obtained by ultrasonic Doppler velocimetry and local potential probes in the flow of GaInSn eutectic melt driven by a two-phase inductor in a cylindrical container. This type of flow is expected in a recent modification to the floating zone technique for the growth of small-diameter single intermetallic compound crystals. We show that the flow structure can be changed from the typical two toroidal vortices to a single vortex by increasing the phase shift between the currents in the two coils from 0 to 90 degrees. On natural convection in a single and two zone rectangular enclosure

Abstract Convective heat transfer was investigated numerically for rectangular enclosures both undivided and divided in two zones by a vertical partition, and having opposite isothermal walls at different temperatures. The aspect ratio was varied from 0.1 to 16 and the Rayleigh number from 3.5 ∗ 10 3 to ∗ 10 7 (non-partitioned enclosures) and from 1.0 ∗ 10 5 to 1.6 ∗ 10 8 (partitioned enclosures). One-dimensional Mixed MHD Convection

The parallel, fully developed flow of an electrically conducting fluid between plane parallel walls under the simultaneous influence of a driving pressure head, buoyancy, and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) forces is studied. The fluid is assumed to be internally heated and the flow is modeled as one-dimensional and incompressible, while the Boussinesq approximation is adopted for the buoyancy terms. Route to chaos in the weakly stratified Kolmogorov flow

We consider a two-dimensional fluid exposed to Kolmogorov’s forcing cos(ny) and heated from above. The stabilizing effects of temperature are taken into account using the Boussinesq approximation. The fluid with no temperature stratification has been widely studied and, although relying on strong simplifications, it is considered an important tool for the theoretical and experimental study of transition to turbulence.
