Los veinte nombres de colores de caballos en Isidoro de Sevilla (orig. 12, 1, 48-55)

Este artículo analiza y discute el origen, significado y empleo de veinte términos referidos a colores de caballos en las Etimologías de Isidoro, de los que sostenemos que murteus es el étimo del castellano morcillo, y que glaucus significaba en realidad ‘tordo grisá- ceo’. Isidoro clasifica los colores en cuatro grupos: rojos, blancos, mezclados y oscuros. El análisis de las fuentes literarias, de la estructura del texto y de la verdadera etimología de los términos discutidos muestra que algunos neologismos asociados a nombres de colores designan en realidad distintos tipos de caballos, como el garañón, el caballo salvaje, el berberisco y el poni.

Background Traumatic fractures of the thoracolumbar spine are common injuries, accounting for approximately 90% of all spinal traumas. Optimal management of these fractures still gives rises to much debate in the literature. Currently, one of the treatment options in young patients with stable traumatic vertebral fractures is conservative treatment using braces. Kyphoplasty as a minimally invasive procedure has been shown to be effective in stabilizing vertebral body fractures, resulting in immediate pain relief and improved physical function with early return to work activity. Ballota L. comprises several relevant species largely used for their excellent therapeutic properties. Ballota hispanica (L.) Benth. is widely used in herbal medicine, and it is sold in herbalist shops for its sedative and antispasmodic properties.
