Il contributo esamina le stele e i naiskoi funerari dipinti di Lilibeo (Sicilia), recentemente incrementati da due nuove acquisizioni. Sono presi in considerazione i (pochi) dati contestuali, oltre a tipologia, iconografia e formule epigrafiche, allo scopo di mettere in luce specificità, funzioni e messaggi di tali manufatti. We study a distributed allocation process where, at each time, every player: i) proposes a new bid based on the average utilities produced up to that time, ii) adjusts such allocations based on the inputs received from its neighbors, and iii) generates and allocates new utilities. The average allocations evolve according to a doubly (over time and space) averaging algorithm. We study conditions under which the average allocations reach consensus to any point within a predefined target set even in the presence of adversarial disturbances. Abstract The age and spatial structure of six natural old growth Pinus sylvestris stands in Latvia were investigated, to attempt to identify retrospectively the past features of development. In each stand, one or two plots of size 200–900 m2 were established. Tree locations were mapped, stem diameter was measured, and tree age was determined from cores or by counting branch whorls. Tree distribution was assessed by Ripley's K function. A clumped spatial pattern was shown for P. sylvestris younger than 100 years. Evaluation of river condition is complicated by dynamic relationships between river assemblages and their environment. We assessed variation of ecological status classifications of stream diatom and macroinvertebrate communities within a boreal river system. We specifically examined whether results of ecological classifications are concordant across taxonomic groups and among main channel and headwater side tributaries of this river system. We investigated the phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) diversity and enzyme activities in soils from the volcano, Mt. Etna (Sicily). The soils were at sites which have been developing for different periods of time and have formed in volcanic lava of differing ages that have been supplemented with volcanic ejecta from subsequent eruptions. However, the plant communities indicated a marked successional difference between the sites and we have used this as a proxy for developmental stage. Abstract We assessed the relative roles of natural covariates, human disturbance (water quality and catchment land use) together with geography in driving variation in aquatic macrophyte community composition, richness and status among 101 lakes in southern and central Finland.
