Measurement of the neutrino neutral-current elastic differential cross section on mineral oil atEν∼1  GeV

We report a measurement of the flux-averaged neutral-current elastic differential cross section for neutrinos scattering on mineral oil (CH{sub 2}) as a function of four-momentum transferred squared, Q{sup 2}. It is obtained by measuring the kinematics of recoiling nucleons with kinetic energy greater than 50 MeV which are readily detected in MiniBooNE. This differential cross-section distribution is fit with fixed nucleon form factors apart from an axial mass M{sub A} that provides a best fit for M{sub A}=1.39{+-}0.11 GeV. Coherent photoproduction of η-mesons off 3He – search for η-mesic nuclei

Coherent photoproduction of $\eta$-mesons off $^3$He, i.e. the reaction $\gamma ^3{He}\rightarrow \eta ^3{He}$, has been investigated in the near-threshold region. The experiment was performed at the Glasgow tagged photon facility of the Mainz MAMI accelerator with the combined Crystal Ball - TAPS detector. Angular distributions and the total cross section were measured using the $\eta\rightarrow \gamma\gamma$ and $\eta\rightarrow 3\pi^0\rightarrow 6\gamma$ decay channels. The observed extremely sharp rise of the cross section at threshold and the behavior of the angular distributions are evidence for a strong $\eta {^3{He}}$ final state interaction, pointing to the existence of a resonant …

Three body systems with strangeness and exotic systems

We report on four $\Sigma$'s and three $\Lambda$'s, in the 1500 - 1800 MeV region, as two meson - one baryon S-wave $(1/2)^+$ resonances found by solving the Faddeev equations in the coupled channel approach, which can be associated to the existing $S$ = -1, $J^P= 1/2^+$ low lying baryon resonances. On the other hand we also report on a new, hidden strangeness $N^*$ state, mostly made of $K \bar{K} N$, with mass around 1920 MeV, which we think could be responsible for the peak seen in the $\gamma p \to K^+ \Lambda$ around this energy. Finally we address a very novel topic in which we show how few body systems of several $\rho$ mesons can be produced, with their spins aligned up to J=6, and …

Anomalous dynamics triggered by a non-convex equation of state in relativistic flows

The non-monotonicity of the local speed of sound in dense matter at baryon number densities much higher than the nuclear saturation density ($n_0 \approx 0.16\,$fm$^{-3}$) suggests the possible existence of a non-convex thermodynamics which will lead to a non-convex dynamics. Here, we explore the rich and complex dynamics that an equation of state (EoS) with non-convex regions in the pressure-density plane may develop as a result of genuinely relativistic effects, without a classical counterpart. Aidnogenesis via Leptogenesis and Dark Sphalerons

We discuss aidnogenesis, the generation of a dark matter asymmetry via new sphaleron processes associated to an extra non-abelian gauge symmetry common to both the visible and the dark sectors. Such a theory can naturally produce an abundance of asymmetric dark matter which is of the same size as the lepton and baryon asymmetries, as suggested by the similar sizes of the observed baryonic and dark matter energy content, and provide a definite prediction for the mass of the dark matter particle. Accurate evolutions of unequal-mass neutron-star binaries: properties of the torus and short GRB engines

We present new results from accurate and fully general-relativistic simulations of the coalescence of unmagnetized binary neutron stars with various mass ratios. The evolution of the stars is followed through the inspiral phase, the merger and prompt collapse to a black hole, up until the appearance of a thick accretion disk, which is studied as it enters and remains in a regime of quasi-steady accretion. Although a simple ideal-fluid equation of state with \Gamma=2 is used, this work presents a systematic study within a fully general relativistic framework of the properties of the resulting black-hole--torus system produced by the merger of unequal-mass binaries. Theory of Neutrino Masses and Mixing

In this talk I will review our present knowledge on neutrino masses and mixing trying to emphasize what has been definitively proved and what is in the process of being probed. I will also discuss the most important theoretical implications of these results: the existence of new physics, the estimate of the scale of this new physics as well as some other possible consequences such as leptogenesis origin of the baryon asymmetry.

Baryon chiral perturbation theory

We provide a short introduction to the one-nucleon sector of chiral perturbation theory and address the issue of power counting and renormalization. We discuss the infrared regularization and the extended on-mass-shell scheme. Both allow for the inclusion of further degrees of freedom beyond pions and nucleons and the application to higher-loop calculations. As applications we consider the chiral expansion of the nucleon mass to order ${\cal O}(q^6)$ and the inclusion of vector and axial-vector mesons in the calculation of nucleon form factors. Finally, we address the complex-mass scheme for describing unstable particles in effective field theory.

Links between CP violation in leptogenesis and low energy supersymmetry

The seesaw mechanism makes leptogenesis a very attractive solution to the baryon asymmetry problem. If the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU) was made via leptogenesis, any observation of CP violation in the lepton sector, for instance CP violation in neutrino oscillations, would support leptogenesis by demonstrating that CP is not a symmetry of leptons. The question is whether a stronger link exists between CP violation at low energies and leptogenesis.
