Antistrange meson-baryon interaction in hot and dense nuclear matter

2014

We present a study of in-medium cross sections and (off-shell) transition rates for the most relevant binary reactions for strange pseudoscalar meson production close to threshold in heavy-ion collisions at FAIR energies. Our results rely on a chiral unitary approach in coupled channels which incorporates the $s$- and $p$-waves of the kaon-nucleon interaction. The formalism, which is modified in the hot and dense medium to account for Pauli blocking effects, mean-field binding on baryons, and pion and kaon self-energies, has been improved to implement full unitarization and self-consistency for both the $s$- and $p$-wave interactions at finite temperature and density. This gives access to i…

Two-meson cloud contribution to the baryon antidecuplet self-energy

2005

We study the self-energy of the SU(3) antidecuplet coming from two-meson virtual clouds. Assuming that the exotic Theta+ belongs to an antidecuplet representation with N(1710) as nucleon partner, we derive effective Lagrangians that describe the decay of N(1710) into N pi pi with two pions in s- or p-wave. It is found that the self-energies for all members of the antidecuplet are attractive, and the larger strangeness particle is more bound. From two-meson cloud, we obtain about 20 % of the empirical mass splitting between states with different strangeness.

N−Δ(1232)axial form factors from weak pion production

2010

The $N\ensuremath{\Delta}$ axial form factors are determined from neutrino induced pion production ANL and BNL data by using a theoretical model that accounts both for background mechanisms and deuteron effects. We find violations of the off-diagonal Goldberger-Treiman relation at the level of $2\ensuremath{\sigma}$ which might have an impact in background calculations for T2K and MiniBooNE low energy neutrino oscillation precision experiments.

Anisotropic flow of charged hadrons, pions and (anti-)protons measured at high transverse momentum in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV

2013

The elliptic, v(2), triangular, v(3), and quadrangular, v(4), azimuthal anisotropic flow coefficients are measured for unidentified charged particles, pions, and (anti-)protons in Pb-Pb collisions at root S-NN = 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Results obtained with the event plane and four-particle cumulant methods are reported for the pseudo-rapidity range vertical bar eta vertical bar 8 GeV/c. The small p(T) dependence of the difference between elliptic flow results obtained from the event plane and four-particle cumulant methods suggests a common origin of flow fluctuations up to p(T) = 8 GeV/c. The magnitude of the (anti-)proton elliptic and triangular flo…

Study of reactions disclosing hidden charm pentaquarks with or without strangeness

2016

We present results for five reactions, Lambda(b) -> J/psi K(-)p, Lambda(b) -> J/psi eta Lambda, Lambda(b) -> J/psi pi(-)p, Lambda(b) -> J/psi K-0 Lambda and Xi(-)(b) -> J/psi K-Lambda, where combining information from the meson baryon interaction, using the chiral unitary approach, and predictions made for molecular states of hidden charm, with or without strangeness, we can evaluate invariant mass distributions for the light meson baryon states, and for those of J/psi p or J/psi Lambda. We show that with the present available information, in all of these reactions one finds peaks where the pentaquark states show up. In the Lambda(b) -> J/psi K(-)p, and Lambda(b) -> J/psi pi(-)p reactions w…

Meson exchange currents in theHe3(γ,π+)3H reaction

1996

We generate meson exchange currents mechanisms for the (\ensuremath{\gamma},${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{+}$) reaction in nuclei starting from the \ensuremath{\gamma}N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}N amplitude on one nucleon and allowing one of the pions to be produced off shell and be absorbed by a second nucleon. Detailed calculations are presented for the \ensuremath{\gamma} $^{3}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+3}$H reaction, where we show that the cross section at large momentum transfers is dominated by these mechanisms, helping improve the agreement with experimental data. It is also shown that the meson exchange currents produce important effects in the photon a…

Searches for the baryon- and lepton-number violating decaysB0→Λc+l−,B−→Λl−, andB−→Λ¯l−

2011

Searches for $B$ mesons decaying to final states containing a baryon and a lepton are performed, where the baryon is either $\Lambda_c$ or $\Lambda$ and the lepton is a muon or an electron. These decays violate both baryon and lepton number and would be a signature of physics beyond the standard model. No significant signal is observed in any of the decay modes, and upper limits in the range $(3.2-520) \times 10^{-8}$ are set on the branching fractions at the 90% confidence level.

Study ofCP-violating charge asymmetries of single muons and like-sign dimuons inpp¯collisions

2014

We measure the inclusive single muon charge asymmetry and the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in $p \bar{p}$ collisions using the full data set of 10.4 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The standard model predictions of the charge asymmetries induced by CP violation are small in magnitude compared to the current experimental precision, so non-zero measurements could indicate new sources of CP violation. The measurements differ from the standard model predictions of CP violation in these asymmetries with a significance of 3.6 standard deviations. These results are interpreted in a framework of $B$ meson mixing within the CKM formalism to measure the relativ…

Antikaon-nucleon interaction and Lambda(1405) in chiral SU(3) dynamics

2016

The properties of the Lambda(1405) resonance are key ingredients for determining the antikaon-nucleon interaction in strangeness nuclear physics, and the novel internal structure of the Lambda(1405) is of great interest in hadron physics, as a prototype case of a baryon that does not fit into the simple three-quark picture. We show that a quantitative description of the antikaon-nucleon interaction with the Lambda(1405) is achieved in the framework of chiral SU(3) dynamics, with the help of recent experimental progress. Further constraints on the Kbar N subthreshold interaction are provided by analyzing pi Sigma spectra in various processes, such as the K-d -> pi Sigma n reaction and the…

Odd-parity light baryon resonances

2011

We use a consistent SU(6) extension of the meson-baryon chiral Lagrangian within a coupled channel unitary approach in order to calculate the T-matrix for meson-baryon scattering in s-wave. The building blocks of the scheme are the pion and nucleon octets, the rho nonet and the Delta decuplet. We identify poles in this unitary T-matrix and interpret them as resonances. We study here the non exotic sectors with strangeness S=0,-1,-2,-3 and spin J=1/2, 3/2 and 5/2. Many of the poles generated can be associated with known N, Delta, Sigma, Lambda and Xi resonances with negative parity. We show that most of the low-lying three and four star odd parity baryon resonances with spin 1/2 and 3/2 can …
