The Basiles, three Generations of Architects. Basile's Atelier.

2013

In the mid-Nineteenth century young Giovan Battista Filippo Basile decided to pursue his career of architecture. He didn’t know he was going to be the founder of a dynasty of professionals. A dynasty that characterized the artistic culture of Sicily for about a century. His son, Ernesto, can be inserted between the genial personalities of the European art scene of all time. He will be the protagonist of Italian Art Nouveau. Grandsons, Roberto and Giovan Battista Filippo Jr., carry the paternal language to contemporary in many works at the turn of the Second World War. From Neoclassicism to Rationalism, through Eclecticism and Modernism, Basile architects and engineers have followed the evol…

Timeo danaos et dona ferentes

2013

Accuracy of Transient Elastography in Assessing Fibrosis at Diagnosis in Naïve Patients With Primary Biliary Cholangitis: A Dual Cut-Off Approach

2021

Background & aims Liver fibrosis holds a relevant prognostic meaning in primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). Non-invasive fibrosis evaluation using vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE) is routinely performed. However, there is limited evidence on its accuracy at diagnosis in PBC. We aimed to estimate the diagnostic accuracy of VCTE in assessing advanced fibrosis at disease presentation in PBC. Approach & results We collected data from 167 consecutive treatment-naive PBC patients who underwent liver biopsy(LB) at diagnosis at six Italian centers. VCTE examinations were completed within 12 weeks of LB. Biopsies were scored by two blinded expert pathologists, according to Ludwig sy…

2021

Guianese culture and traditional music, here evoked, are various. It is more a transcultural process that, along centuries, gave an original result born in the Americas, in Guiana in this case. It is a form of refoundation, of recreation of cultures and new human beings generally called Creoles. The musical performance, that I study here, is the echo of social and cultural space of this reformulation of thought, life, and conception of the world. It is, as well, a mean of transposition and transformation of the values issued of diverse sources and categories. It is in no way a second-rate cultural practice, as it is the place where were born philosophies and actions for common life as well …

as it is the place where were born philosophies and actions for common life as well as for individual life. This organization of the musical experience requires several levels of readings to better understand the underlying performance that is the issue discussed here. What is then the subject of the musical performance in French Guianese traditional society? What are the implementation techniques and the intrinsic forms of knowledge? What is the creation process and for what goal? Without a doubtlifeUNESCO::CIENCIAS DE LAS ARTES Y LAS LETRASand conception of the world. Fungal biodiversity and in situ conservation in Italy

2011

A remarkable increase in knowledge of fungal biodiversity in Italy has occurred in the last five years. The authors report up-to-date numbers of fungi (Basidiomycota and Ascomycota) by regions together with distributional and ecological data on hypogeous fungi. Specific case studies such as alpine fungi, orchid mycorrhizas symbionts, invasive species, and the use of macrofungi as food by red squirrels are analyzed. In situ conservation strategies carried out on target species and/or taxonomic groups are also indicated.

Sakņu piepes Heterobasidion spp. genotipu attīstība egļu Picea abies (L.) H. Karst. mežaudzē platlapju kūdrenī Oxalidosa turf. mel.

2021

Evolution of vertebrate survival circuits

2018

Evolution selects those adaptive features that increase reproductive probabilities and facilitate survival. Analysing the brain circuits mediating risk-avoidance (e.g. defense) and those allowing reward-seeking (motivated) behaviours in different vertebrates leads to several main conclusions. First, circuits mediating risk-avoidance are similar in all studied vertebrates, where they include amygdala homologues located in the posterior half of the cerebral hemispheres, in close relationship with the chemosensory systems. Second, in all vertebrates, reward-seeking behaviours involve the activity of tegmento-striatal dopaminergic pathways, plus other inputs to the ventral striatum, including a…

COLLEGAMENTI PER UN’IDENTITÀ CULTURALE COMUNE NEL BACINO DEL MEDITERRANEO

2021

Revision of asterolepidoid antiarch remains from the Ogre Formation (Upper Devonian) of Latvia

2020

The Frasnian (Upper Devonian) antiarch Walterilepis speciosa was first described in 1933 (as Taeniolepis) on the basis of a single specimen. The newly collected material has allowed the head to be described in a more detail, especially the nuchal and paranuchal plates. Other newly described elements include bones of the pectoral appendages and trunk armour, demonstrating a rather high and short trunk armour. The shape and proportions of the head and trunk armour suggest the attribution of Walterilepis to the family Pterichthyodidae; it is most probably closely related to Lepadolepis from the Late Frasnian of Germany. Whilst W. speciosa is endemic to the Latvian part of the Baltic Devonian B…
