Seismic response of braced frames with and without friction dampers

Abstract The dynamic response of friction damped bracing systems and ordinary cross-bracing systems inserted into surrounding frames without lateral stiffness is analysed in order to compare the typical behaviour of the two different bracing systems. The problem of robust decentralized adaptive neural stabilization control is investigated for a class of nonaffine nonlinear interconnected large-scale systems with unknown dead zones. In the controller design procedure, radical basis function (RBF) neural networks are applied to approximate packaged unknown nonlinearities and then an adaptive neural decentralized controller is systematically derived without requiring any information on the boundedness of dead zone parameters (slopes and break points). This paper presents an approach for estimation of ultrasonic time-of-flight (TOF) within a Non Destructive Testing (NDT) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) context. The presented method leverages recent advances in the field of Compressive Sensing (CS), which makes use of sparsity in a transform domain of a signal in order to reduce the number of samples required to store it. CS achieves this through a two key ideas: random matrix projections, and l1-penalised linear regression. Comparative analysis of vehicle to pole collision models established using analytical methods and neural networks

This paper presents a comparison between two modeling approaches of vehicle to pole collision. Firstly, analytical and curve fitting methods are explained and subsequently they are utilized to create lumped parameter models. Having parameters of such systems and their responses we proceed to brief description of the radial basis function neural network and its application to the linear models' coefficients' identification. Neural Sensorless Control of Linear Induction Motors by a Full-Order Luenberger Observer Considering the End Effects

This paper proposes a neural based full-order Luenberger adaptive speed observer for sensorless linear induction motor (LIM) drives, where the linear speed is estimated with the total least squares (TLS) EXIN neuron. A novel state space-vector representation of the LIM has been deduced, taking into consideration its dynamic end effects. An Object-Oriented Approach to Discrete-Event Simulation Applied to Underground Railway Systems

This paper describes the implementation of an object-oriented simulator that supports the determination of timetables and the design of on-line control policies for underground rail way systems. The simulator has been developed on the basis of a new approach to object- oriented modelling. Such an approach has been used to design a development tool that supports the generation of simulation codes and is able to automatically define the skeleton of a code.
