ABSTRACT Motivational strategies are among the most promising approaches to improve the effectiveness of batterer intervention programs (BIPs). An individualized motivational plan (IMP) is one of these motivational strategies. A frequency shifting device is fabricated and tested in a congruent Lithium Tantalate waveguide. Periodic poling for quasi-phase-matching and channels for operation in the near-infrared C-band were obtained, demonstrating a two-stage parametric conversion.
Higher serum levels of periostin and the risk of exacerbations in moderate asthmatics

BACKGROUND: In asthma, exacerbations and poor disease control are linked to airway allergic inflammation. Serum periostin has been proposed as a systemic biomarker of eosinophilic inflammation. This pilot study aims at evaluating whether in patients with moderate asthma, higher baseline levels of serum periostin are associated with a greater risk of exacerbation. METHODS: Fifteen outpatients with moderate allergic asthma were recruited. Serum concentrations of periostin were assessed (ELISA) at baseline, and the frequency of asthma exacerbations was recorded during a one-year follow-up. The first adiabatic ionization energy and the first singlet–triplet splitting of the amidogen radical (NH2) have been determined by high-level ab initio quantum chemistry based on the coupled-cluster approach (90 041 and 10 319 cm−1, respectively) and by high-resolution pulsed-field-ionization zero-kinetic-energy (PFI-ZEKE) photoelectron spectroscopy (90 083.8 ± 1.0 and 10 222.0 ± 1.3 cm−1, respectively). A comparison between the theoretical and experimental values demonstrates the predictive powers of high-level ab initio theory in the derivation of the thermochemical properties of small molecular systems. Temperature is a very important parameter during nitritation, having a direct effect on ammonia oxidation rate (AOR) and enzymatic activities which relate to both N2O and NO emission. This study aims at investigating the effect of temperature on AOR, N2O and NO production in an enriched ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) sequencing batch reactor (SBR) performing partial nitrification (PN) of synthetic reject wastewater. To achieve that, a SBR was subject to several shifts in temperature (in the range of 30 to 15 °C, 5 °C for each decrease).
