Macroscopic jumps of the axial angular momentum variance of a bidimensionally trapped ion

Abstract The time evolution of the axial angular momentum [Lcirc] z of an ion confined in a bidimensional trap is investigated. We find that, under suitable initial conditions, the interaction of the ion with two properly configured classical laser beams induces a peculiar dynamical behaviour of the axial angular momentum fluctuations. We show, in fact, that there exists an instant of time at which the variance of [Lcirc] z undergoes variations proportional to N 2 further to a change of one quantum only in the initial total number N ≫ 1 of vibrational quanta. The non-classical origin of these macroscopic jumps is brought to the light and carefully discussed.
High current proton beams production at Simple Mirror Ion Source 37

This paper presents the latest results of high current proton beam production at Simple Mirror Ion Source (SMIS) 37 facility at the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP RAS). In this experimental setup, the plasma is created and the electrons are heated by 37.5 GHz gyrotron radiation with power up to 100 kW in a simple mirror trap fulfilling the ECR condition. Latest experiments at SMIS 37 were performed using a single-aperture two-electrode extraction system. Proton beams with currents up to 450 mA at high voltages below 45 kV were obtained. Crack dynamics and crack surfaces in elastic beam lattices

The dynamics of propagating cracks is analyzed in elastic two-dimensional lattices of beams. At early times, inertia effects and static stress enhancement combine so that the crack-tip velocity is found to behave as t1/7. At late times a minimal crack-tip model reproduces the numerical simulation results. With no disorder and for fast loading, a “mirror-mist-mirror” crack-surface pattern emerges. Polarization and angular distribution of the radiation emitted in laser-assisted recombination

The effect of an intense external linear polarized radiation field on the angular distributions and polarization states of the photons emitted during the radiative recombination is investigated. It is predicted, on symmetry grounds, and corroborated by numerical calculations of approximate recombination rates, that emission of elliptically polarized photons occurs when the momentum of the electron beam is not aligned to the direction of the oscillating field. Moreover, strong modifications to the angular distributions of the emitted photons are induced by the external radiation field.
Dealing with contaminants in Coulomb excitation of radioactive beams

Abstract Data analysis of the Coulomb excitation experiment of the exotic 206Hg nucleus, recently performed at CERN’s HIE-ISOLDE facility, needs to account for the contribution to target excitation due to the strongly-present beam contaminant 130Xe. In this paper, the contamination subtraction procedure is presented.
Photoreactions with tensor-polarized deuterium target at VEPP–3

We give an overview of the activity in studying photoprocesses on a tensor-polarized deuterium target, which is carried out at the VEPP–3 electron storage ring. Recent experimental results on tensor asymmetries in two-body deuteron photodisintegration at the photon energy up to 500 MeV, and in coherent pion photoproduction on deuteron are presented. Plans to upgrade the facility and future experiments are discussed. Further progress is connected with the installation of a tagging system for almost-real photons. THE BARYON RESONANCE PROGRAM AT MAMI

The Mainz Microtron MAMI is an ideal facility to study the hadron structure with the electromagnetic probe. With the fourth accelerator stage (MAMI-C) which went into operation in 2007 high-intensity polarized electron and photon beams with energies up to 1.5 GeV are delivered to the experiments. Polarized targets and recoil polarimeters in combination with dedicated detectors are available for precision experiments in hadron physics. In this article, an overview over selected recent results on the study of low-lying baryon resonances and future perspectives will be given.
Nuclear cross sections in 16O for β beam neutrinos at intermediate energies

The nuclear cross sections for charged lepton production induced by $\beta$ beam neutrinos (anti-neutrinos) in $^{16}$O have been presented at intermediate energies corresponding to the Lorentz boost factor $\gamma<250 (150)$. The calculations for quasi-elastic lepton production includes the effect of Pauli blocking, Fermi motion and renormalization of weak transition strengths in the nuclear medium. The calculations for the inelastic lepton production is done in the $\Delta$ dominance model. The renormalization of $\Delta$ properties in a nuclear medium and final state interactions of pions with the final nucleus are taken into account. Hypernuclear spectroscopy with heavy ion beams: The HypHI project at GSI and fair

The HypHI experiment for precise hypernuclear spectroscopy with induced reactions of stable heavy ion beams and rare isotope beams is currently under preparation at GSI. The main goal of the HypHI project is to study neutron and proton rich hypernuclei and to measure directly hypernuclear magnetic moments at GSI and FAIR. In the first HypHI experiment (Phase 0) planned in 2009, the feasibility of precise hypernuclear spectroscopy with heavy ion beams will be demonstrated by observing π- decay channels of [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] with 6 Li projectiles at 2 A GeV impinging on a 12 C target.
