Two-Color Radiation Generated in a Seeded Free-Electron Laser with Two Electron Beams.
2015
We present the experimental evidence of the generation of coherent and statistically stable two-color free-electron laser radiation obtained by seeding an electron beam double peaked in energy with a laser pulse single spiked in frequency. The radiation presents two neat spectral lines, with time delay, frequency separation, and relative intensity that can be accurately controlled. The analysis of the emitted radiation shows a temporal coherence and a shot-to-shot regularity in frequency significantly enhanced with respect to the self-amplified spontaneous emission. © 2015 American Physical Society. © 2015 American Physical Society.
Searching for long-lived particles beyond the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider
2020
Particles beyond the Standard Model (SM) can generically have lifetimes that are long compared to SM particles at the weak scale. When produced at experiments such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, these longlived particles (LLPs) can decay far from the interaction vertex of the primary proton–proton collision. Such LLP signatures are distinct from those of promptly decaying particles that are targeted by the majority of searches for new physics at the LHC, often requiring customized techniques to identify, for example, significantly displaced decay vertices, tracks with atypical properties, and short track segments. Given their non-standard nature, a comprehensive overview of LLP…
Towards the european strategy for particle physics: The briefing book
2007
This document was prepared as part of the briefing material for the Workshop of the CERN Council Strategy Group, held in DESY Zeuthen from 2nd to 6th May 2006. It gives an overview of the physics issues and of the technological challenges that will shape the future of the field, and incorporates material presented and discussed during the Symposium on the European Strategy for Particle Physics, held in Orsay from 30th January to 2nd February 2006, reflecting the various opinions of the European community as recorded in written submissions to the Strategy Group and in the discussions at the Symposium.
The study of neutron-rich nuclei production in the region of the closed shell N=126 in the multi-nucleon transfer reaction 136Xe+208Pb
2015
Expérience LNL/PRISMA; International audience; The unexplored area of heavy neutron rich nuclei is extremely important for nuclearastrophysics investigations and, in particular, for the understanding of the r-process ofastrophysical nucleogenesis. For the production of heavy neutron rich nuclei located along theneutron closed shell N=126 (probably the last "waiting point" in the r-process of nucleosynthesis)the low-energy multi-nucleon transfer reaction 136Xe+208Pb at Elab=870MeV was explored.Due to the stabilizing eect of the closed neutron shells in both nuclei, N=82 and N=126, andthe rather favorable proton transfer from lead to xenon, the light fragments formed in this processare well b…
In situ study of the sintering of a lead phosphovanadate in an Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope
2011
cited By 3; International audience; The in situ sintering of a powder of Pb3(VO4) 1.6(PO4)0.4 composition was performed in an Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope. The electric current induced by the electron beam was found to reduce the effective temperature of sintering as well as to accelerate the kinetics of shrinkage of a cluster composed of sub-micrometric grains of material. The presence of the residual current flow in the cluster during observation for in situ experiments helps to reduce the apparent sintering temperatures from 50 to 150 °C compared to conventional heating conditions without current. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. Depassivation Experiments by Laser‐Pulse‐Induced Spallation
1992
Depassivation experiments have been conducted by applying a technique developed for adhesion tests. A laser-pulse-induced spallation of the passive film is induced in situ without any contact between the laser beam and the passive film. The depassivation is controlled by the short pressures induced at the metal-film interface. The interfacial stresses at the metal-film interface could be studied by this technique
Optimization of a hot-cavity type resonant ionization laser ion source
2015
TuePS05; International audience; Resonant Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS) is nowadays an important technique in many RadioactiveIon Beam (RIB) facilities for its reliability and ability to ionize efficiently and element selectively.Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds (GANIL) Ion Source using Electron Laser Excitation(GISELE) is an off-line test bench for RILIS developed to study a fully operational resonant laserion source at GANIL facility. The ion source body has been designed as a modular system toinvestigate different experimental approaches by varying the design parameters, to develop the futureon-line laser ion source. The aim of this project is to determine the best technic…
Measurement of high order Kerr refractive index of major air components: erratum
2010
A clarification is missing concerning the high order Kerr non-linearities deduced from our experimental data published in [Opt. Express 17, 13429-13434 (2009)]. Here, we rectify this omission by making explicit the distinction between cross-Kerr and Kerr effects, and by extrapolating the value of the nonlinear refractive index for the last effect. Since the occurrence of sign inversion in the Kerr effect is not affected, the overall report in [Opt. Express 17, 13429-13434] remains valid.

2020
The generation of structured light by means of metasurfaces is presented and the applications in the characterizations of polarization rotation and Pancharatnam-Berry phase are discussed.
980nm laser for difficult-to-treat basal cell carcinoma
2013
Abstract Begin basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is most common skin cancer over the world. There are around 20 modalities for BCC treatment. Laser surgery is uncommon option. We demonstrate our long term follow up results. Aim:To evaluate long term efficacy of a 980nm diode laser for the difficult-to-treat basal cell carcinoma. Materials and Methods: 167 patients with 173 basal cell carcinoma on the nose were treated with a 980 nm diode laser from May 1999 till May 2005 at Latvian Oncology center. All tumors were morphologically confirmed. 156 patients were followed for more than 5 years. Results: The lowest recurrence rate was observed in cases of superficial BCC, diameter<6mm; bet the highes…
