AbstractLarge-scale colony losses among managed Western honey bees have become a serious threat to the beekeeping industry in the last decade. There are multiple factors contributing to these losses but the impact of Varroa destructor parasitism is by far the most important, along with the contribution of some pathogenic viruses vectored by the mite. So far, more than 20 viruses have been identified infecting the honey bee, most of them RNA viruses. Efficiency of QuEChERS approach for determining 52 pesticide residues in honey and honey bees

A comparison between QuEChERS and other pesticide extraction procedures for honey and honey bee matrices is discussed. Honey bee matrix was extracted by solvent based procedure whereas solid phase extraction was the protocol for the honey matrix. The citrate buffered QuEChERS method was used for both matrices. The methods were evaluated regarding cost (equipment and reagents), time, accuracy, precision, sensitivity and versatility. The results proved that the QuEChERS protocol was the most efficient method for the extraction of the selected pesticides in both matrices. Hydrodynamic response of a loam soil after wetting with different methods

Different points in a field can be wetted with different natural or artificial rainfall amounts and intensities. Therefore, a non-uniform soil wetting could occur during short-term monitoring of soil hydrodynamic parameters and its global effect on soil characterization is not easily predictable. We will explore the literary image of animal magnetism and hypnosis through the analysis of two works of fiction: the novels Richard Marsh’s The Beetle: A Mystery (1897) and Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897). Abstract This paper describes the original synthesis of a functionalized derivative of the fungicide picoxystrobin and the generation of the first reported monoclonal antibodies against this strobilurin pesticide. The synthetic hapten was prepared by total synthesis from commercial chemicals and incorporating the spacer arm through a carbon–carbon single bond. In this article the fi rst results of the performance analysis of the photovoltaic glassblock are given. The photovoltaic glassblock is an innovative product which integrates third generation solar cells (DSSC) invented for the construction of translucent building envelopes energetically effi cient and “active” able to reduce the energy consumption in buildings and to produce at the same time green energy. The analysis was conducted on four different hypotheses of integration through numerical simulations in order to evaluate the energy absorption and the optical performance of the device. The software simulations represent a fi rst step for the understanding of the performance of the element and prelude to an experimental analysis session. The results of a research conducted about national and international patents publications on the DSSC technology and its applications will be illustrated too. Comparing Alternative Algorithms to Analyze the Beerkan Infiltration Experiment

The increasing interest in the Beerkan Estimation of Soil Transfer parameters (BEST) procedure of soil hydraulic characterization justifies an assessment of alternative methods to analyze infiltration data. The BEST-slope and BEST-intercept algorithms allow estimation of soil sorptivity, S, and saturated soil hydraulic conductivity, Ks, using the transient part of the experimental infiltration curve and the slope and the intercept, respectively, of the linear portion of this curve.
