Il tempo del desiderio. Per Jean-Luc Nancy
2021
This essay aims to sketch the philosophical profile of Jean-Luc Nancy by analysing his last works on pandemics. In these writings the author develops a pecu- liar and pivotal care and concern for the present time, which does not actually ap- pear to be different from that produced in other works of the author’s such as “Being Singular Plural” or “The Sense of the World”. This allows us to speak of “a desire for the present” in the philosopher’s opus, which finds in the question of technology an ideal position for analysis.
Fantastic morphologies: animal form between mythology and Evo-Devo
2020
Since ancient times, man has shown a genuine passion for the recombination of visual elements in unusual and extraordinary forms; but, if the ancients admitted the existence of mythological creatures, today we are fully aware that their existence is limited to the ontological domain of the “merely thinkable” because imaginary beings are irreconcilable with physical and biological laws. In this article I try to elucidate what differentiates from a morphological point of view the imaginary beings described by the pens of poets (such as Sphinx, mermaids and centaurs) from bizarre but existing animals (i.e. the small South American Axolotl, the Yeti Crab, etc.) or from some specimens belonging …
Psychological Well-Being among Adolescents and Youth.
2022
Today, the construct of well‐being has assumed increasing importance in various areas of psychology by identifying several factors of personal order (personality dispositions, self‐esteem, perception of control), interpersonal (social support), and socioeconomic (income, level of education), variables that can influence well‐being to a greater or lesser extent. Research on the construct has been derived from two influential approaches or perspectives: the hedonic approach, which focuses on pleasure and happiness and on the achievement of well-being through the satisfaction of one’s desires, and the eudaimonic approach, according to which well-being is obtained by fulfilling one’s potential …
Personality and Optimal Experience in Adolescence: Implications for Well-Being and Development
2013
Past research has repeatedly identified relations between optimal experience—or flow—and well-being across the lifespan. In the attempt to identify the conditions favoring this experience, some studies took into account personality traits. While most of them operationalized flow in terms of intensity, we presently focused on perceived occurrence versus absence of flow. Specifically, we investigated the relations between flow occurrence, hedonic and eudaimonic well-being, activities associated with flow, and personality in adolescence. A group of 408 Italian teenagers (mean age = 17.31; SD = 1.13) were administered Flow Questionnaire, Satisfaction with Life Scale, Positive and Negative Affec…
The Effects of Short-Term Personal Goals on Subjective Well-Being
2015
Several studies demonstrated that subjective well-being is associated with goal value and perceived progress but their validity is affected by methodological biases. Moreover, a few have analysed the influence of short-term goals. We aimed to analyse how the levels of and changes in short-term goals progress and value influence subsequent levels of and changes in subjective well-being. This study adopted a three-wave longitudinal design with one-month intervals. Four hundred nine participants (186 males; age 19–71) reported their subjective well-being and their two most important goals and rated each over time in terms of value and progress. A latent difference score model revealed that lev…
Psychological variables in medically assisted reproduction: a systematic review
2022
Introduction: The paths of medically assisted reproduction represent the most important scientific progress to cope with the inability to achieve spontaneous conception (SC) and to reach desired parenthood. Couples undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) and couples not facing ovulation induction and artificial fertilization show sufficient levels of well-being and psychological adjustment. However, in some cases couples undergoing ART show lower perceived quality of life than couples with SC. Our aim is to investigate the main psychological variables involved in the special risk condition of medically assisted reproduction and how they could direct specific guidelines to enhance …

Using the QEEW to evaluate the organizational climate in Italian work contexts
2011
Our research work aims to evaluate the possible use of the questionnaire on the experience and evaluation of work (QEEW; van Veldhoven & Meijman, 1994) in Italian work contexts. The QEEW was modeled to evaluate a) job demands and job resources, to collect relevant information on the amount of exposure to environmental and psychological job characteristics; b) outcome measures, such as job enjoyment and need for recovery. The QEEW is wide used in north Europe to test a theoretical model useful to understand the workers wellbeing (the job demands-resources model, Bakker, van Veldhoven and Xanthopoulou, 2010). The research was conducted in 3 different work contexts (public hospital, public…
