Factorial analysis and psychometric properties of the revised Valencia scale of attitudes and beliefs towards hypnosis-client version

Psychometric properties and factorial structure of the Revised Valencia Scale of Attitudes and Beliefs toward Hypnosis – Client Version using a Portuguese sample are presented. Exploratory factor analysis on a Portuguese population of undergraduate college students (N = 444) yielded 8 factors: ‘Interest/Liking’, ‘Memory/Magic’, ‘Help’, ‘Control’, ‘Cooperation’, ‘Marginal’, ‘Fear’ and ‘Automaton’. The overall 8-factor structure is similar to the one found in the therapist version of the scale, and as in the therapist version, each factor of the client version showed good internal consistency and reliability. Learning with belief levels

AbstractWe study learning of predicate logics formulas from “elementary facts,” i.e. from the values of the predicates in the given model. Several models of learning are considered, but most of our attention is paid to learning with belief levels. We propose an axiom system which describes what we consider to be a human scientist's natural behavior when trying to explore these elementary facts. It is proved that no such system can be complete. However we believe that our axiom system is “practically” complete. Theorems presented in the paper in some sense confirm our hypothesis.

Pre-Service Primary Teachers' Beliefs of Teaching Science With Simulations

Although the benefits of the use of simulations in science education have been extensively documented, research on pre-service teacher education related to the use of simulations in science teaching remains limited. The aim of this study was to investigate the beliefs of pre-service primary teachers in two teacher training programs of two different universities (n = 36 and n = 18) related to teaching science with simulations. The teachers participated in an intervention where they planned and gave a science lesson where simulations were used. Exception-Tolerant Hierarchical Knowledge Bases for Forward Model Learning

This article provides an overview of the recently proposed forward model approximation framework for learning games of the general video game artificial intelligence (GVGAI) framework. In contrast to other general game-playing algorithms, the proposed agent model does not need a full description of the game but can learn the game's rules by observing game state transitions. Based on hierarchical knowledge bases, the forward model can be learned and revised during game-play, improving the accuracy of the agent's state predictions over time. Este trabajo analizó las propiedades psicométricas de una batería de cuestionarios utilizados previamente en contextos deportivos británicos y norteamericanos para medir: la orientación de metas disposicional, las creencias sobre las causas de éxito en deporte, la satisfacción con los resultados deportivos y la diversión con la práctica deportiva y las relaciones entre la orientación de meta personal y las variables estudiadas. 90 chicos y 40 chicas practicantes de atletismo o tenis participaron en el estudio. Características de la violencia de género en la Universidad de Valencia

El presente estudio tiene como objetivo conocer la prevalencia de la violencia de género en la universidad de Valencia, el perfil de la víctima, recursos y creencias sobre la violencia en la comunidad universitaria. La muestra está formada por 3.404 sujetos pertenecientes al personal docente e investigador, el personal de administración y servicios y estudiantes. Los resultados apuntan una incidencia de la violencia de género del 20.03%. El perfil de la víctima es el de mujer, estudiante, sin hijos, con una percepción del riesgo leve o moderado, que no denuncia y con repercusiones a nivel psicológico. ‘Teachers see nothing’ : exploring students’ and teachers’ perspectives on school bullying with a new arts-based methodology

Even though bullying is a perennial problem, there are still significant gaps in the research. The sensitive nature of the issue prompted us to develop and test a new arts-based method – a set of incomplete, problem-focused comic strips that were given to the participants for creative completion and were subsequently used as individualised interview prompts. The study took place in Russia with 14 teachers and 39 school children. The findings indicated that students and teachers agreed that instances of bullying should not be reported.
