Efficacy and safety study of an eyelid gel after repeated nocturnal application in healthy contact lens users and non-users

2020

Purpose: To evaluate skin biocompatibility of a nighttime hydrating eyelid gel and possible ocular surface effects in contact lens users (CLU) and non-contact lens users (NCLU). The formulation is registered as a medical device as Tridocosahexaenoine-AOX® (TDHA-AOX) (a concentrated DHA triglyceride), containing also hyaluronic acid (HA). Methods: A prospective, randomized, masked clinical trial was performed with 62 participants of both sexes, aged 20–70 years, split into: (1) CLU (n = 30) and (2) NCLU (n = 32). All participants were instructed to apply a single dose of the moisturizing gel (containing TDHA-AOX and HA) nightly to the upper and inner eyelids of their right eye (RE) only, and…

Estimation of hydrodynamic properties of a sandy-loam soil by two analysis methods of single-ring infiltration data

2022

Abstract Beerkan infiltration runs could provide an incomplete description of infiltration with reference to either the near steady-state or the transient stages. In particular, the process could still be in the transient stage at the end of the run or some transient infiltration data might be loss. The Wu1 method and the BEST-steady algorithm can be applied to derive soil hydrodynamic parameters even under these circumstances. Therefore, a soil dataset could be developed using two different data analysis methods. The hypothesis that the Wu1 method and BEST-steady yield similar predictions of the soil parameters when they are applied to the same infiltration curve was tested in this investi…

What is the best fitting function? Evaluation of lactate curves with common methods from the literature

2015

Using the lactate threshold for training prescription is the gold-standard, although there are several open questions. One open question is: What is the best fitting method for the load-lactate data points? This investigation re-analyses over 3500 lactate diagnostic datasets in swimming. Our evaluation software examines six different fitting methods with two different minimization criteria (RMSE and SE). Optimization of parameters of the functions is put in excecution with gradient descent. From a mathematical point of view, the double phase model, which consists of two linear regression lines, shows the least errors (RMSE min 0.254 ± 0.172; SE min 0.311 ± 0.210). However, this method canno…

Contemporary practice and technical aspects in coronary intervention with bioresorbable scaffolds : a European perspective

2015

Aims Next to patient characteristics, the lack of a standardised approach for bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) implantation is perceived as a potential explanation for the heterogeneous results reported so far. To provide some guidance, we sought to find a consensus on the best practices for BVS implantation and management across a broad array of patient and lesion scenarios. Methods and results Fourteen European centres with a high volume of BVS procedures combined their efforts in an informal collaboration. To get the most objective snapshot of different practices among the participating centres, a survey with 45 multiple choice questions was prepared and conducted. The results of th…

«The best interests of the child»: un’analisi giurisprudenziale comparata per un approfondimento concettuale

La vera innovazione apportata dalla Convenzione ONU diritti dell’infanzia del 1989 è, senz’altro, costituita dall’introduzione del concetto di “best interests of the child”. L’articolo 3 della CRC, infatti, sancisce espressamente che: «In all actions concerning children, whether undertaken by public or private social welfare institutions, courts of law, administrative authorities or legislative bodies, the best interests of the child shall be a primary consideration». Ma in cosa consiste realmente questo "interesse superiore del minore"? A chi spetta indicarne il contenuto? E soprattutto quali sono i parametri di riferimento da tenere in considerazione nel valutarlo? Nell’arco di pochi anni…

A note on best approximation in 0-complete partial metric spaces

2014

We study the existence and uniqueness of best proximity points in the setting of 0-complete partial metric spaces. We get our results by showing that the generalizations, which we have to consider, are obtained from the corresponding results in metric spaces. We introduce some new concepts and consider significant theorems to support this fact.

Best Proximity Point Results in Non-Archimedean Fuzzy Metric Spaces

2013

We consider the problem of finding a best proximity point which achieves the minimum distance between two nonempty sets in a non-Archimedean fuzzy metric space. First we prove the existence and uniqueness of the best proximity point by using di fferent contractive conditions, then we present some examples to support our best proximity point theorems.

The existence of best proximity points in metric spaces with the property UC

2009

Abstract Eldred and Veeramani in [A.A. Eldred, P. Veeramani, Existence and convergence of best proximity points, J. Math. Anal. Appl., 323 (2006), 1001–1006. MR2260159] proved a theorem which ensures the existence of a best proximity point of cyclic contractions in the framework of uniformly convex Banach spaces. In this paper we introduce a notion of the property UC and extend the Eldred and Veeramani theorem to metric spaces with the property UC.

Best proximity points: Convergence and existence theorems for p-cyclic mappings

2010

Abstract We introduce a new class of mappings, called p -cyclic φ -contractions, which contains the p -cyclic contraction mappings as a subclass. Then, convergence and existence results of best proximity points for p -cyclic φ -contraction mappings are obtained. Moreover, we prove results of the existence of best proximity points in a reflexive Banach space. These results are generalizations of the results of Al-Thagafi and Shahzad (2009) [8] .
