Two-neutrino ββ decays and low-lying Gamow-Teller β− strength functions in the mass range A=70–176
2017
We apply the proton-neutron deformed quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pn-dQRPA) to describe the low-lying (E 6 MeV) 1+ Gamow-Teller (GT) strength functions in odd-odd deformed nuclei which participate as intermediate nuclei in two-neutrino double-β-decay (2νββ) transitions within the mass range A = 70–176. In deriving equations of motion we use a single-particle basis with projected angular momentum, provided by the diagonalization of a spherical mean field furnished with a quadrupole-quadrupole interaction. The schematic residual Hamiltonian contains pairing and proton-neutron interaction terms in particle-hole (ph) and particle-particle (pp) channels, with constant strengths. By …
Theoretical study of selective H3 receptor antagonists of histamine
1993
Abstract The conformations and charge distributions of three selective H3 receptor antagonists of histamine were determined using the MNDO approach. The results suggest that the conformational flexibilities of betahistine, N α-(2-phenylacetyl)histamine and thioperamide are different; however, the low-energy conformations of these compounds show closely related spatial orderings. The MNDO calculations predict a significant population of the N1H form in the imidazole systems of N α-(2-phenylacetyl)histamine and thioperamide. Our results indicate that the conformational behaviour of H3 antagonists is closely similar to that reported for H2 antagonists of histamine. These results emphasize the …
β-decay rates of 115,117Rh into 115,117Pd isotopes in the microscopic interacting boson-fermion model
2020
The structure of odd-A 115,117Rh and 115,117Pd isotopes is studied by means of the neutron-proton interacting boson-fermion model (IBFM-2). JP=12+ quantum number assignment for the 115,117Pd ground states is critically discussed and the predicted energy levels are compared to the existing experimental data. The resulting nuclear wave functions are used to compute the β-decay ft values of the transitions from 115,117Rh to 115,117Pd in the microscopic IBFM-2 and the results compared with the data. peerReviewed
Competition between allowed and first-forbidden β decays of At208 and expansion of the Po208 level scheme
2021
The structure of 208Po populated through the EC/β+ decay of 208At is investigated using γ-ray spectroscopy at the ISOLDE Decay Station. The presented level scheme contains 27 new excited states and 43 new transitions, as well as a further 50 previously observed γ rays which have been (re)assigned a position. The level scheme is compared to shell model calculations. Through this analysis approximately half of the β-decay strength of 208At is found to proceed via allowed decay and half via first-forbidden decay. The first-forbidden transitions predominantly populate core excited states at high excitation energies, which is qualitatively understood using shell model considerations. This mass r…
First β-decay scheme of 107Nb : New insight into the low-energy levels of 107Mo
2019
Monoisotopic samples of 107Nb nuclei, produced in the proton-induced fission of 238U and separated using the IGISOL mass separator coupled to a Penning trap, were used to perform β- and γ-coincidence spectroscopy of 107Mo. Gamma transitions and excited levels in 107Mo were observed in β decay for the first time. Spin and parity 1/2+ for the ground state of 107Mo is proposed, to replace the previous 5/2+ assignment. The experimental β-decay half-life of 107Nb was estimated to be 0.27±0.02 s. peerReviewed
β Decay of 127Cd and Excited States in 127In
2019
A dedicated spectroscopic study of the β decay of 127Cd was conducted at the IGISOL facility at the University of Jyväskylä. Following high-resolution mass separation in a Penning trap, β−γ−γcoincidences were used to considerably extend the decay scheme of 127In. The β-decaying 3/2+ and 11/2− states in 127Cd have been identified with the 127Cd ground state and the 283-keV isomer. Their respective half-lives have been measured to 0.45(128)s and 0.36(4) s. The experimentally observed βfeeding to excited states of 127In and the decay scheme of 127In are discussed in conjunction with large-scale shell-model calculations. peerReviewed
Excited states in 87Br populated in β decay of 87Se
2019
Excited levels in 87Br, populated in β decay of 87Se, have been studied by means of γ-ray spectroscopy using an array of broad energy Ge detectors. 87Se nuclei were produced by irradiating a natural Th target with 25-MeV protons. Fission products were extracted from the target chamber using the IGISOL technique, then separated on a dipole magnet and Penning trap (JYFLTRAP) setup. The scheme of excited levels of 87Br has been significantly extended. 114 new transitions and 51 new levels were established. β feedings and log(ft) values of levels were determined. The upper limit for β feeding to the ground state of 87Br was determined to be 23(5)%. Ground state spin and parity 5/2− was confirme…
β- and γ-spectroscopy study of 119Pd and 119Ag
2022
Neutron-rich 119Pd nuclei were produced in fission of natural uranium, induced by 25-MeV protons. Fission fragments swiftly extracted with the Ion Guide Isotope Separation On-Line method were mass separated using a dipole magnet and a Penning trap, providing mono-isotopic samples of 119Pd. Their β− decay was measured with γγ- and βγ-spectroscopy methods using low-energy germanium detectors and a thin plastic scintillator. Two distinct nuclear-level structures were observed in 119Ag, based on the 1/2− and 7/2+ isomers reported previously. The β−-decay work was complemented by a prompt-γ study of levels in 119Ag populated in spontaneous fission of 252Cf, performed using the Gammasphere array …
Ordinary muon capture studies for the matrix elements in ββ decay
2019
High-purity germanium (HPGe) detectors were used to make a precise measurement of the γ-ray spectrum produced following ordinary (nonradiative) capture of negative muons by natural Se, Kr, Cd, and Sm. The measurement was repeated for isotopically enriched 48Ti, 76Se, 82Kr, 106Cd, and 150Smtargets. By investigating energy and time distributions, the lifetime of negative muons in the different isotopes was deduced. A detailed analysis of the intensity of the γ lines enabled the extraction of the relative yields of several daughter nuclei. The partial rates of (μ−,ν) capture to numerous excited levels of the 48Sc, 76As, 82Br, 106Ag, and 150Tc isotopes (considered to be virtual states of the in…
Comparative analysis of muon-capture and 0νββ-decay matrix elements
2020
Average matrix elements of ordinary muon capture (OMC) to the intermediate nuclei of neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decays of current experimental interest are computed and compared with the corresponding energy and multipole decompositions of 0νββ-decay nuclear matrix elements (NMEs). The present OMC computations are performed using the Morita-Fujii formalism by extending the original formalism beyond the leading order. The 0νββ NMEs include the appropriate short-range correlations, nuclear form factors, and higher-order nucleonic weak currents. The nuclear wave functions are obtained in extended no-core single-particle model spaces using the spherical version of the proton-neutron quasip…
