In this study, it was analysed for platelet counts and growth factor concentrations. Material and method: Platelet-rich plasma was isolated by discontinuous cell separation from 158 healthy men and 55 women aged 17–62 years. Platelet concentrates (PC) are increasingly used to increase bone regeneration in pre-prosthetic surgery. Although it is generally appreciated that certain growth factors (PDGF, TGF, EGF, and ECGF) are present in thrombocyte preparations, relatively little is known about these components in quantitative terms. The study reported here analysed the amounts of growth factors in PC produced under standard conditions from healthy volunteers. The exact role of IL-9 and Th9 cells in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) have not yet been studied adequately. Rising levels of cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNAemia and/or pp65 antigenemia have been observed during pre-emptive ganciclovir therapy in patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT). We assessed the incidence of this event in our series, and investigated whether its occurrence was associated with an impairment in the CMV-specific T-cell response. This work, which extends previous research on the postabsorbitive fate of dietary betalains, investigated the distribution of betanin and indicaxanthin in red blood cells (RBCs) isolated from healthy volunteers (n = 8), before and during the 1-8 h interval after a cactus pear fruit meal, and the potential antioxidative activity of the pigments in these cells. From the primary site of a pancreatic adenocarcinoma (patient BE) a permanent cell line (MZ-PC-2) was established in tissue culture. In the course of mixed lymphocyte-tumor-cell cultures (MLTC) with autologous blood-derived lymphocytes, we isolated CTL clones that lysed autologous tumor cells but not autologous EBV-transformed B cells (EBV-B) and not K562. Pre-treatment of MZ-PC-2 cells with IFN-gamma was required to obtain significant lysis in 4-hr cytotoxicity assays. IFN-gamma was superior to IFN-alpha in that respect.
