INTEGRAL long-term monitoring of the Supergiant Fast X-ray Transient XTE J1739-302

2008

In the past few years, a new class of High Mass X-Ray Binaries (HMXRB) has been claimed to exist, the Supergiant Fast X-ray Transients (SFXT). These are X-ray binary systems with a compact companion orbiting a supergiant star which show very short and bright outbursts in a series of activity periods overimposed on longer quiescent periods. Only very recently the first attempts to model the behaviour of these sources have been published, some of them within the framework of accretion from clumpy stellar winds. Our goal is to analyze the properties of XTE J1739-302/IGR J17391-3021 within the context of the clumpy structure of the supergiant wind. We have used INTEGRAL and RXTE/PCA observations…

Smart composite films of nanometric thickness based on copper-iodine coordination polymers. Toward sensors.

2018

One-pot reactions between CuI and methyl or methyl 2-amino-isonicotinate give rise to the formation of two coordination polymers (CPs) based on double zig-zag Cu2I2 chains. The presence of a NH2 group in the isonicotinate ligand produces different supramolecular interactions affecting the Cu-Cu distances and symmetry of the Cu2I2 chains. These structural variations significantly modulate their physical properties. Thus, both CPs are semiconductors and also show reversible thermo/mechanoluminescence. X-ray diffraction studies carried out under different temperature and pressure conditions in combination with theoretical calculations have been used to rationalize the multi-stimuli-responsive …

Phase equilibria in the ternary system isobutyl alcohol+isobutyl acetate+1-hexanol and the binary systems isobutyl alcohol+1-hexanol, isobutyl acetat…

2005

Abstract Consistent vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data at 101.3 kPa have been determined for the ternary system isobutyl alcohol (IBA) + isobutyl acetate (IBAc) + 1-hexanol and two constituent binary systems: IBA + 1-hexanol and IBAc + 1-hexanol. The IBA + 1-hexanol system exhibits no deviation from ideal behaviour and IBAc + 1-hexanol system show lightly positive deviation from Raoult's law. The activity coefficients of the solutions were correlated with its composition by the Wilson, NRTL, UNIQUAC models. The ternary system is well predicted from binary interaction parameters. 1-Hexanol eliminates the IBA–IBAc binary azeotrope. However, the change of phase equilibria behaviour is small t…

Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria for binary and ternary systems composed of water, 1-propanol, and 2-propanol at 100 kPa

1996

Isobaric vapor−liquid equilibria data were obtained for the 2-propanol + 1-propanol binary system and the water + 1-propanol + 2-propanol ternary system at 100 kPa. The data were found to be thermodynamically consistent according to the Van Ness−Byer−Gibbs method for the binary system and according to the McDermott−Ellis method for the ternary one. The binary system is well represented by assuming ideal behavior. The binary interaction parameters obtained from this and our previous work are used to predict the vapor−liquid equilibrium for the ternary system using the UNIQUAC, NRTL, and Wilson models. The ternary system is well predicted from binary data.

Dynamics of Binary Active Clusters Driven by Ion-Exchange Particles

2018

We present a framework to quantitatively predict the linear and rotational directed motion of synthetic modular microswimmers. To this end, we study binary dimers and characterize their approach motion as effective interactions within a minimal model. We apply this framework to the assembly of small aggregates composed of a cationic ion-exchange particle with up to five passive particles or anionic ion-exchange particles at dilute conditions. Particles sediment and move close to a substrate, above which the ion-exchange particles generate flow. This flow mediates long-range attractions leading to a slow collapse during which long-lived clusters of a few particles assemble. The effective int…

Timing of accreting millisecond pulsars

2008

We review recent results from the X-ray timing of accreting millisecond pulsars in LMXBs. This is the first time a timing analysis is performed on accreting millisecond pulsars, and for the first time we can obtain information on the behavior of a very fast pulsar subject to accretion torques. We find both spin-up and spin-down behaviors, from which, using available models for the accretion torques, we derive information on the mass accretion rate and magnetic field of the neutron star in these systems. We also report here the first measure of the orbital period derivative for an accreting millisecond pulsar, derived for SAX J1808.4-3658 over a timespan of more 7 years.

OPTION VALUE CALCULATION AFFECTED COMPONENTS

2021

As the subprime credit crisis has attracted attention to financial derivative instruments, more frequently arises questions about fairvalue calculations. Over the time, different models had been introduced. All of those models take into account factors affectingprices. Mostly, factors used in calculations on the same type of financial instruments are approximately the same. Therefore questionarises, which factor affects price more and which less, with no matter which model would be used for fair value calculations. One offinancial derivative instrument types is options. Options are agreements, which give to option buyer rights to buy or sell underlyingasset. While the seller or writer of op…

Solid Solutions in the Xanthone–Thioxanthone Binary System: How Well Are Similar Molecules Discriminated in the Solid State?

2020

The binary system of xanthone–thioxanthone has been explored, showing that two solid solutions (formed based on xanthone and thioxanthone parent structures, respectively) exist for this system. One...

Multiwavelength observations of the Be/X-ray binary 4U1145-619

1997

We report optical and infrared observations of the massive X-ray binary system 4U1145-619 (V801 Cen) which show that the circumstellar disc of the Be star component is in decline. Infrared J,H,K,L magnitudes of V801Cen have been monitored from 1993 March to 1996 April. H alpha spectra have been obtained throughout the same period. We find that both the infrared excess and the Balmer emission have been in decline throughout the period of observations. A 13 year optical and X-ray history of the source has been collated, revealing a possible correlation between the optical and X-ray activity. In addition, we have used u,v,b,y,beta indices, corrected for both circumstellar and interstellar effe…

The nearest X-ray emitting protostellar jet observed with HST

2009

The HH 154 jet coming from the YSO binary L1551 IRS5 is one of the closest (about 150 pc) astrophysical jet known. It is therefore a unique laboratory for studies of outflow mechanisms and of the shocks forming at the interaction front between the expanding material and the ambient medium. The substructures (knots) observed within the HH 154 jet were imaged in several spectral bands using the Hubble Space Telescope. This allows us to derive a simple characterization of the physical conditions in different structures as well as to measure the proper motion of the knots in the jet, their flux variability and shock emission over a time base of about ten years. These knots in the jet undergo si…
