Abstract Rate data for the alkaline hydrolysis of the chloropentaamminecobalt(III) cation in the presence of mixed micelles composed of (i) anionic sodium decylsulphate (SDeS) and non-ionic dodecylpenta(oxyethylene glycol) monoether (C 12 E 5 ) surfactants and (ii) anionic sodium perfluorooctanoate (SPFO) and non-ionic C 12 E 5 surfactants has been obtained at T 298 K and constant electrolyte concentration 0.08 mol dm −3 ([NaOH] = 0.01 mol dm −3 , [NaClO 4 ] = 0.07 mol dm −3 ) over a wide range of total surfactant concentration ( C t ) and anionic mole fraction ( χ ). The involvement of non-canonical DNA structures, such as Gquadruplex (G4) DNA, in cancer development and progression has set the pace towards the renaissance of DNA-binding metal complexes. In this work, we report the DNA-binding of three Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) complexes of a salphen-like N4-donor ligand, bearing two imidazole groups condensed with a phenylenediamine moiety. Both duplex and G4 DNAs derived from human telomeres (hTelo), and a sequence mimicking the promoter of the oncogene myc (c-myc) were studied. Abstract We have investigated the interaction between vesicles based on dimyristoyl phosphatidic acid (DMPA) and a polymer, such as poly(2-vinyl pyridine) (P2VPy), on the basis of both partition and binding models. The resulting association curves are non monotonous being three regions clearly evidenced. The electrostatic and steric origin of the attractive or repulsive interactions are analyzed as a function of pH, ionic strength and temperature using the fluorescence spectroscopy technique. Specific interaction of desthiobiotin lipids and water-soluble biotin compounds with streptavidin

As shown for biotin lipids (Ref. 1), the formation of perfect 2-D crystalline streptavidin domains can also be observed in the plane of desthiobiotin lipid monolayers. The binding constant of streptavidin with desthiobiotin (Ka = 5·1013 mol−1) is lower than that with biotin (Ka = 1015 mol−1) (Ref. 2). By adding free biotin into the subphase a competitive replacement and a detaching of the streptavidin domains from the desthiobiotin lipid monolayer takes place. Streptavidin domains built at receptor lipid monolayers are still functional. Abstract Specific interaction between biotin and the protein streptavidin in monolayers of synthetic lipids with biotin headgroups has been shown to lead to formation of highly ordered two-dimensional streptavidin crystals. The same behaviour is observed when using desthiobiotin as lipid headgroup which exhibits a significantly lower binding constant compared with biotin (5 × 10 13 M -1 compared with 10 15 M -1 ). This offers the possibility of detaching competetively the 2D crystalline streptavidin layer by addition of free biotin to the aqueous phase. Effects of physico-chemical parameters of a model wine on the binding of γ-decalactone on bovine serum albumin

Abstract To understand the effect of temperature, pH and the composition of alcoholic beverages in flavour-protein interactions, the binding of γ-decalactone to bovine serum albumin (BSA) was investigated using the equilibrium dialysis method. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that the affinity of aroma compound for BSA is higher at 10 °C than at 20 and 30 °C, while the number of binding sites (n = 6–7) is not modified at the three temperatures. pH did not have any appreciable effect on flavour binding in the presence of ethanol, but it was observed that a decrease of 1.8 pH unit reduces binding by 40% in its absence. Encapsulation of Xenon by a Self-Assembled Fe4L6 Metallosupramolecular Cage

We report (129)Xe NMR experiments showing that a Fe4L6 metallosupramolecular cage can encapsulate xenon in water with a binding constant of 16 M(-1). The observations pave the way for exploiting metallosupramolecular cages as economical means to extract rare gases as well as (129)Xe NMR-based bio-, pH, and temperature sensors. Xe in the Fe4L6 cage has an unusual chemical shift downfield from free Xe in water. The exchange rate between the encapsulated and free Xe was determined to be about 10 Hz, potentially allowing signal amplification via chemical exchange saturation transfer. The solubilization site of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)-porphyrin-Mn(III) (MnTDPPC) in (L)-alpha-dipalmitoylphosphatidyl choline (DPPC) vesicles was determined in a systematic UV-vis spectrophotometric study. Measurements of the MnTDPPC absorbance have been conducted at constant temperatures (in the interval 30 degrees C <= T <= 48 degrees C) and varying concentrations of phospholipid. In the entire temperature range, the absorption due to MnTDCCP was found to increase with increasing DPPC concentration, until it reaches a plateau value. Acid—base properties of azo dyes in the presence of surfactants

Abstract The changes in the acid—base properties of an azo dye produced by the presence of surfactants, at surfactant concentrations below and above the CMC, are quantitatively described using a simple model and spectrophotometric and potentiometric measurements. The azo dye formed by aniline and N -(1-naphthyl)-ethylenediamine, and the surfactants sodium dodecyl sulphate, Triton X-100 and N -cetylpyridinium chloride (NCPC) are used. The protonation constants of the free and surfactant-bound dye species, the binding constant of the protonated and unprotonated forms of the dye, and the average aggregation number of the dye—NCPC aggregates are evaluated.

Abstract The inclusion capacity of three modified cyclodextrins—namely mono-(6- N , N -dimethylamino-6-deoxy)- ( 3 ), mono-6-(2-aminoethyl)-amino-6-deoxy- ( 4 ) and mono-6-(2- N , N -dimethylaminoethyl)-amino-6-deoxy- ( 5 ) β-cyclodextrin, with six para -substituted nitrobenzenes ( A – F ) has been investigated at three different pH values.
