Intensity-Based Single Particle Plasmon Sensing.

Plasmon sensors respond to local changes of their surrounding environment with a shift in their resonance wavelength. This response is usually detected by measuring light scattering spectra to determine the resonance wavelength. However, single wavelength detection has become increasingly important because it simplifies the setup, increases speed, and improves statistics. Therefore, we investigated theoretically how the sensitivity toward such single wavelength scattering intensity changes depend on the material and shape of the plasmonic sensor. Complex Terahertz and Direct Current Inverse Spin Hall Effect in YIG/Cu1-xIrx Bilayers Across a Wide Concentration Range

We measure the inverse spin Hall effect of Cu1-xIrx thin films on yttrium iron garnet over a wide range of Ir concentrations (0.05 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.7). Spin currents are triggered through the spin Seebeck effect, either by a continuous (dc) temperature gradient or by ultrafast optical heating of the metal layer. The spin Hall current is detected by electrical contacts or measurement of the emitted terahertz radiation. With both approaches, we reveal the same Ir concentration dependence that follows a novel complex, nonmonotonous behavior as compared to previous studies. Contribution to a Taxonomic Revision of the Sicilian Helichrysum Taxa by PCA Analysis of Their Essential-Oil Compositions

The chemical profile of the essential oils in ten populations of the genus Helichrysum Mill. (Asteraceae), collected in the loci classici of the nomenclatural types of the taxa endemic to Sicily, were analyzed. Our results confirm that the analysis of secondary metabolites can be used to fingerprint wild populations of Helichrysum, the chemical profiles being coherent with the systematic arrangement of the investigated populations in three main clusters, referring to the aggregates of H. stoechas, H. rupestre, and H. italicum, all belonging to the section Stoechadina. Study of behavioral and neurophysiological mechanisms following motor imagery training

For many years, research in motor control, sport science and rehabilitation focused on the performance improvement following mental practice. However, some mechanisms, behavioral and neurophysiological, remain insufficiently understood. In our first study, we demonstrated the impossibility to predict the future performance improvement following imagined repetitions of a speed accuracy trade-off task, with a subjective evaluation of imagery ability of young healthy individuals. Platform switching on wide-diameter external hex implants: a finite element analysis.

Objectives: The objective of this work was to use finite element analysis to compare the effect of forces coming to bear on abutments 4.1 or 5.0 mm in diameter connected to a 5.0 mm implant (i.e. with or without platform swit - ching). Study design: A 3D CAD model of a 5 x 11.5 mm external hex implant was developed, complete with a connection screw and either of two abutments, one 4.1 and the other 5 mm in diameter, to assess the influence of two loading conditions, i.e. 200 N loaded either axially or off center on the top of the abutment. Mathematical modeling of the biofiltration of ethyl acetate and toluene and their mixture

Abstract A dynamic model for ethyl acetate and toluene removal by biofiltration is presented. Haldane-type kinetic expressions that include the oxygen limitation, the inhibition effect due to high concentration of substrate, and the cross-inhibition between substrates have been considered. A decrease in the biomass density with the bed height was proposed to represent the performance of peat biofilters over a broad range of operating conditions. Evaluation of a combined activated carbon prefilter and biotrickling filter system treating variable ethanol and ethyl acetate gaseous emissions

The removal of a 1:1 by weight mixture of ethanol and ethyl acetate was studied in a gas phase biotrickling filter running under conditions that simulated industrial emissions from the flexographic sector, i.e. discontinuous loading (twelve hours per day and five days per week) and oscillating concentration of the inlet stream. Three sets of experimental conditions were tested in which empty-bed residence time varied from 60 to 25s (inlet loads from 50 to 90g Cm -3 h -1 ). The biotrickling filter reached a maximum elimination capacity of 48.5g Cm -3 h -1 (removal efficiency = 68.9%) for an empty-bed residence time of 40 s. Development of polymer-based nanoparticles for Zileuton delivery to the lung : PMeOx and PMeOzi surface chemistry reduces interactions with mucins

In this paper, two amphiphilic graft copolymers were synthesized by grafting polylactic acid (PLA) as hydrophobic chain and poly(2-methyl-2-oxazoline) (PMeOx) or poly(2-methyl-2-oxazine) (PMeOzi) as hydrophilic chain, respectively, to a backbone of α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-D,L-aspartamide (PHEA).
