The increasing production of biographical films dealing with power and its figures raises interesting questions about the nature and the aims of political cinema. What are the strategies used to represent people whose public image has completely overlapped to their identity? This matter concerns not only thematic aspects of the biopic genre, but more in depth it discloses fundamental issues at the basis of any theory of cinema. The paper aims to investigate the possibilities for the concept of “political author” as an effect of discourse to survive in contemporary cinema by analysing the case of Italian biopics of the new Millennium. After a proposal of definition of a political authoriality, the analyses of the films attempt to show how the articula- tion of such an authoriality in three different figures – the director, the actor, and the real model – and in subcategories defines a specific feature of biographical cinema, to eventually conclude with some remarks about the posthumous life of the authorial discourse after the “death of the author”, between politics and commitment.

Usually, fictional biography – both written or filmed – seems to trace back the distinctive aspect of a certain life only into the sphere of the activity characterizing it. El cine es uno de las artes que más atrae a la población adolescente. Se plantea si concretamente el cine de ciencia puede utilizarse como una herramienta de aprendizaje y motivación en la enseñanza de las ciencias durante la etapa de secundaria, ya sea con el visionado directo de la película o con su aparición en los libros de texto de secundaria. Antes de hacer uso de esta herramienta hay que tener presente las llamadas visiones deformadas de la ciencia que se producen en el espectador, las cuales se manifiestan en todos los medios de comunicación de masas y las cuales deberemos afrontar con una serie de actividades diseñadas para este propósito.
Giordano Bruno: quanto può una vita?

Giuliano Montaldo’s Giordano Bruno is a biopic that marks a turn in the history of Italian biographical cinema. This essay analyses this movie in the light of Bruno’s thought, highlighting its relevance for the present “biographical turn” as well as the importance of film theory and practice in the framework of the so-called “Italian Thought”. By considering them as strictly intertwined, the essay aims at underlying the crucial theoretical role played by biopics in the definition of specific key concepts of the present time.
