Elastische Streuung langsamer Elektronen an einem Bi-Atomstrahl
1968
The angular distribution of electrons elastically scattered by bismuth atoms has been investigated in the angular range from 30 to 155° and with electron energies between 5 and 1200 eV. Theoretical data, which are available for energies above 100 eV, are in good agreement with experiment.
Measurements of charge state distributions of 0.74 and 1.4 MeV/u heavy ions passing through dilute gases
2017
In many modern heavy-ion accelerator facilities, gas strippers are used to increase the projectile charge state for improving the acceleration efficiency of ion beams to higher energies. For this application, the knowledge on the behavior of charge state distributions of heavy-ions after passing through dilute gases is of special interest. Charge state distributions of uranium ($^{238}\mathrm{U}$), bismuth ($^{209}\mathrm{Bi}$), titanium ($^{50}\mathrm{Ti}$), and argon ($^{40}\mathrm{Ar}$) ion beams with energies of $0.74\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}/\mathrm{u}$ and $1.4\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}/\mathrm{u}$ after passing through hydrogen (${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$), helium (He), carbon dioxide (${\mathrm{CO}}_{…
Beta-decay measurements of neutron-rich thallium, lead, and bismuth by means of resonant laser ionisation
2004
Abstract Neutron-rich thallium, lead, and bismuth isotopes were investigated at the ISOLDE facility. After mass separation and resonant laser ionisation of the produced activity, new spectroscopic data were obtained for 215,218 Bi and 215 Pb. An attempt to reach heavy thallium had to be abandoned because of a strong francium component in the beam that gave rise to a neutron background through (α,n) reactions on the aluminium walls of the experimental chamber.
Isomeric states in proton-unbound 187, 189Bi isotopes
2002
Prompt and delayed gamma-ray spectroscopy of very neutron-deficient bismuth isotopes 187, 189Bi has been performed using the Recoil Decay Tagging (RTD) method. The isomeric i 13/2 states have been identified and their lifetimes have been measured. The systematics of these long-lived M2 isomers has been extended to the proton-unbound isotopes. The general behaviour of single-proton states is discussed within the systematics and interpreted within the shell-model framework.
New neutron-rich isotopes of astatine and bismuth
1989
Neutron-rich isotopes of astatine have been produced through spallation reactions with 600 MeV protons on a232Th target and identified by spectroscopic techniques combined with one-line mass separation at the ISOLDE facility. The half-lives of218At and219At have been remeasured to be 1.5(3) s and 57(4) s, respectively. Four new isotopes of astatine,220−223At, have been observed for the first time, and their half-lives were found to be 3.73(13) min, 2.3(2) min, 54(10) s, and 50(7) s, respectively. Another nuclide,216Bi, has been observed for the first time as the daughter product of the220At alpha decay, and its half-life has been measured to be 6.6(21) min.
Nuclear moments and charge radii of bismuth isotopes
2000
Isotope shifts and hyperfine structures have been measured on the 306.7 nm line in bismuth isotopes with A = 205-210, 210m, 212 and 213 by gas cell laser spectroscopy. More precise measurements were made for the A = 207-209 isotopes in atomic beam measurements. Nuclear magnetic and quadrupole moments were deduced. A detailed comparison of the nuclear charge radii systematics has been made in the region using a King plot technique.
Schottky mass measurements of stored and cooled neutron-deficient projectile fragments in the element range of 57≤Z≤84
2000
Abstract A novel method for direct, high precision mass measurements of relativistic exotic nuclei has been successfully applied in the storage ring ESR at GSI. The nuclei of interest were produced by projectile fragmentation of 930 MeV / u bismuth ions, separated in-flight by the fragment separator FRS, stored and cooled in the ESR. The mass values have been deduced from the revolution frequencies of the coasting cooled ions. We have measured 104 new mass values with a precision of about 100 keV and a resolving power of 3.5×10 5 for the neutron-deficient isotopes of the elements 57≤Z≤84 . This paper presents the experimental method, the mass evaluation and a table of the experimental mass …
In-beam studies of203, 205Bi and shell-model features of odd-a bismuth isotopes
1982
States in203, 205Bi are populated using the reaction203, 205Tl(3He,3n). Theπi13/2 single-proton states and all the members of thev(21+)⊗π h9/2 quintuplet are identified in both nuclei. The half-lives of the isomericJπ=21/2+ states in both isotopes are measured and found to be 90±7 ns and 100±6 ns, and from these values suggestions for the half-lives of the previously reportedJπ=25/2+ isomers are made. The structures of the multiplets of the formv(Pb)⊗π h9/2 are calculated in the framework of the shell model and it is shown that the main features can be derived from theπ−v−1 effective interaction. The wave functions of the 41+ and 40+ states in202, 204pb are deduced indirectly from the calcu…
Structural and vibrational study of Bi2Se3under high pressure
2011
The structural and vibrational properties of bismuth selenide (Bi${}_{2}$Se${}_{3}$) have been studied by means of x-ray diffraction and Raman scattering measurements up to 20 and 30 GPa, respectively. The measurements have been complemented with ab initio total-energy and lattice dynamics calculations. Our experimental results evidence a phase transition from the low-pressure rhombohedral ($R$-3$m$) phase (\ensuremath{\alpha}-Bi${}_{2}$Se${}_{3}$) with sixfold coordination for Bi to a monoclinic $C$2/$m$ structure (\ensuremath{\beta}-Bi${}_{2}$Se${}_{3}$) with sevenfold coordination for Bi above 10 GPa. The equation of state and the pressure dependence of the lattice parameters and volume …
Observation of the hyperfine transition in lithium-like bismuthBi20980+: Towards a test of QED in strong magnetic fields
2014
We performed a laser spectroscopic determination of the $2s$ hyperfine splitting (HFS) of Li-like ${}^{209}{\text{Bi}}^{80+}$ and repeated the measurement of the $1s$ HFS of H-like ${}^{209}{\text{Bi}}^{82+}$. Both ion species were subsequently stored in the Experimental Storage Ring at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum f\"ur Schwerionenforschung Darmstadt and cooled with an electron cooler at a velocity of $\ensuremath{\approx}0.71\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}c$. Pulsed laser excitation of the $M1$ hyperfine transition was performed in anticollinear and collinear geometry for ${\text{Bi}}^{82+}$ and ${\text{Bi}}^{80+}$, respectively, and observed by fluorescence detection. We obtain $\ensuremath{\De…
