Perlman syndrome: Clinical report and nine-year follow-up

2005

We present the clinical and follow-up data of a female infant with Perlman syndrome from birth to the age of 9 years. Main features of Perlman syndrome include polyhydramnios, fetal overgrowth, neonatal macrosomia, macrocephaly, dysmorphic facial features, visceromegaly, nephroblastomatosis, and a predisposition for Wilm's tumor. In our patient, the nephromegaly with nephroblastomatosis was not present at birth or during the neonatal period; it became evident in the first months of postnatal life. A Wilm's tumor was diagnosed when she was about 1 year old. Long term follow-up documents the natural history of Perlman syndrome and allows us to establish the long-term prognosis of the affected…

Metastatic neuroblastoma to the mandible in a 3-year-old boy : a case report

2007

Although neuroblastoma is a relatively common malignancy of childhood and its dissemination to distant organs is often seen, metastasis to the mandible is rare. A 3-year-old boy which a mandibular soft tissue mass was the initial presenting symptom of disseminated neuroblastoma is reported. The results of biopsy were inconclusive and the differential diagnosis from the imaging studies included lymphoma, soft tissue sarcoma, and osteosarcoma. A metastatic work-up disclosed neuroblastoma of the adrenal gland origin with osseous and bone marrow metastases. Urinary catecolamines were also increased. Regarding the widespread features of the tumor and lack of adequate treatment at this stage of d…

Plasma membrane glycoproteins covalently bound to silica beads as a model for molecular studies of cell-cell interactions in culture.

1987

Abstract In previous studies, we have shown that plasma membrane glycoproteins are of major importance in the density-dependent regulation of growth of normal diploid fibroblasts. Due to the hydrophobic portions of these molecules, functional studies in cell culture are often diffucult to perform and to interpret. Specially, the addition of these molecules in soluble form to cell culture, after depletion of detergents needed for their solubilization, leads to aggregation and internalization. Therefore, we developed a method for the covalent immobilization of the solubilized plasma membrane proteins to derivatized silica beads for further investigations on the molecular nature of the active …

(1) Background: The high-grade neuroepithelial tumor of the central nervous system with BCOR alteration (HGNET-BCOR) is a highly malignant tumor. Preclinical models and molecular targets are urgently required for this cancer. Previous data suggest a potential role of insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signaling in HGNET-BCOR. (2) Methods: The primary HGNET-BCOR cells PhKh1 were characterized by western blot, copy number variation, and methylation analysis and by electron microscopy. The expression of IGF2 and IGF1R was assessed by qRT-PCR. The effect of chemotherapeutics and IGF1R inhibitors on PhKh1 proliferation was tested. The phosphorylation of IGF1R and downstream molecules was assessed …

Description of an improved method for Blastocystis hominis culture and axenization

1996

An improved method for Blastocystis hominis culture and axenization was developed in the present study. Stool samples were cultured in prereduced Boeck-Drbohlav NHI modified medium (with several modifications) supplemented with antibiotics (0.4% ampicillin, 0.1% streptomycin, 0.0006% amphotericin B). Axenization was performed by the combination of partial purification of B. hominis by Ficoll-metrizoic acid gradient and inoculation in fresh medium containing active antibiotics against remaining bacteria. A total of 25 strains were obtained by this procedure. The time required for axenization ranged between 3 and 5 weeks. The generation time of axenic strains ranged from 6.6 to 12.1 h (mean +…

Squaric Acid-Based Radiopharmaceuticals for Tumor Imaging and Therapy.

2021

Targeting vectors bound to a chelator represent a significant fraction of radiopharmaceuticals used nowadays for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in nuclear medicine. The use of squaramides as coupling units for chelator and targeting vector helps to circumvent the disadvantages of several common coupling methods. This review gives an overview of the use of squaric acid diesters (SADE) as linking agents. It focuses on the conjugation of cyclic chelators, e.g., DOTA (1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid), as well as hybrid chelators like AAZTA5 (6-pentanoic acid-6-amino-1,4-diazepine tetracetic acid) or DATA5m (6-pentanoic acid-6-amino-1,4-diazapine-triacetate) to diff…
