On n–Fold Blocking Sets
1986
An n-fold blocking set is a set of n-disjoint blocking sets. We shall prove upper and lower bounds for the number of components in an n-fold blocking set in projective and affine spaces.
On the Construction of Classes of Suffix Trees for Square Matrices: Algorithms and Applications
1996
AbstractWe provide a uniform framework for the study of index data structures for a two-dimensional matrixTEXT[1:n, 1:n] whose entries are drawn from an ordered alphabetΣ. An index forTEXTcan be informally seen as the two-dimensional analog of the suffix tree for a string. It allows on-line searches and statistics to be performed onTEXTby representing compactly theΘ(n3) square submatrices ofTEXTin optimalO(n2) space. We identify 4n−1families of indices forTEXT, each containing ∏ni=1(2i−1)! isomorphic data structures. We also develop techniques leading to a single algorithm that efficiently builds any index in any family inO(n2logn) time andO(n2) space. Such an algorithm improves in various …
Articaine versus lidocaine inferior alveolar nerve block in posterior mandible implant surgeries: a randomized controlled trial
2023
Background: The aim of this study is to compare the effects of %4 articaine and %2 lidocaine on inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) for implant surgery in the posterior mandible.Material and Methods: The patients who have inserted implants in the posterior mandible were divided into 2 groups for IANB: lidocaine and articaine. VAS = visual analog scale, pain during surgery and injection, lip numb-ness time, mandibular canal-implant apex distance, age, gender, bone density, implant number, release incision, adjacent teeth, and duration of surgery were analyzed using t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, Spearman's coefficient, and, Pearson's chi-squared test. This trial followed the recommendations o…
Aliskiren: Just a New Drug for Few Selected Patients or an Innovative Molecule Predestinated to Replace Arbs and Ace-Inhibitors?
2009
The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) plays a dominant role in the pathophysiology of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease and chronic heart failure. Therefore, drugs that block key components of the RAAS such as ACE inhibitors (ACEI) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) have gained wide clinical use for these indications. Despite progress, the morbidity and mortality of patients treated with ACEI or ARBs remain high. Aliskiren (Tekturna, Rasilez) is the first orally active inhibitor of renin approved for clinical use as an antihypertensive agent. The development program has established that at the licensed doses of 150 mg and 300 mg. Aliskiren is effective …
Biowaiver Monographs for Immediate-Release Solid Oral Dosage Forms: Nifedipine
2015
Literature data relevant to the biopharmaceutical properties of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) nifedipine are reviewed to evaluate whether a waiver of in vivo bioequivalence (BE) testing of immediate-release (IR) dosage forms formulated as tablets and soft gelatin capsules is warranted. Nifedipine's solubility and permeability, its therapeutic use and index, pharmacokinetics, food drug interactions, and any reported BE/bioavailability problems were all taken into consideration. Solubility and BA data indicate conclusively that nifedipine is a class II substance of biopharmaceutics classification system (BCS) and that the formulation of drug product plays a key role on the dissol…
Interacciones farmacológicas de los fármacos antihipertensivos
2005
A drug interaction is the quantitative or qualitative modification of the effect of a drug by the simultaneous or successive administration of a different one. Hypertensive patients, mainly the more elderly ones, frequently present concomitant diseases that require the administration of several medicines which facilitates the appearance of interactions. The lack of effectiveness of the antihypertensive treatment is a relatively frequent fact that sometimes is due to interactions of antihypertensive drugs with other treatments. It is difficult to determine the incidence of interactions, but it is related to the number of drugs administered simultaneously. Between 37 and 60% of hospital-admis…
An attempt to enhance neurogenesis of mdx mice via aerobic exercise and myostatin inhibition
2013
Duchennen lihasdystrofia (DMD) on perinnöllinen sairaus, jonka esiintyvyys on noin 1/3600 poikavauvasta. Siihen liittyy lihasten heikkoutta, rappeutumista ja kognitiivista vajavaisuutta. Taudin aiheuttaa mutatoitunut geeni dystrophiini proteiinille. On esitetty, että kognitiivinen vajavaisuus johtuu taudin vaikutuksesta ehkäistä neurogeneesiä. Neurogeneesi on prosessi, joka jatkuvasti synnyttää uusia hermosoluja pääasiallisesti subventikulaari alueella ja hippokampuksen dentate gyruksella. Hoitoa ja parannusta tautiin tutkitaan yleensä mdx-hiirillä, joiden taudin etiologia on riittävän lähellä ihmisten tautia. Tämä tutkimus keskittyy pyrkimykseen vaikuttaa mdx-hiirten neurogeneesiin aerobis…
With children in their lived place: children's action as research data
2012
Abstract This article discusses theory and methods of researching the everyday experiences of children in the city environment combined with the question of giving a voice to children. The article is organised into three parts. Part one provides a conceptual background, theorising the relational as well as intergenerational character of the concept of environment. The cultural-geographical theory and the concept of Thirdspace are used. Part two illustrates the theoretical and methodological themes with reference to my study with children. I explored the encounter between children and the urban environment. I applied ethnographic tours around a city block with children and the children's spo…
Agri-food Supply Chain Traceability for Fruit and Vegetable Cooperatives Using Blockchain Technology
2019
Analytical Performance and Validation of a Bioassay for Thyroid-Blocking Antibodies
2016
A cell-based bioassay for the measurement of thyroid blocking autoantibodies (TBAb) has been recently reported. The analytical performance and validation of this bioassay is assessed and described.Chinese hamster ovary cells expressing a chimeric thyrotropin receptor were treated with bovine (b) TSH and different concentrations of an immunoglobulin G (IgG) monoclonal human TBAb (K1-70). TBAb was measured as a function of luciferase activity relative to bTSH alone and expressed as percent inhibition. Results obtained in the chimeric cell line were compared with those of a wild-type cell line. Analytical performance studies were subsequently performed with the chimeric cell line only.Immunode…
