Autonomic Nerve Blocks

1988

Selective block of the sympathetic trunk was first reported by Sellheim and, shortly thereafter, by Lawen, Kappis, and Finsterer (1905–1910). In 1924, reports were published by Brumm and Mandl and by Swertlow. After 1930, the technique and the indications were established by White in the United States and Leriche and Fontaine in Europe.

Integrated System for Monitoring the Tool State Using Temperature Measuring by Natural Thermocouple Method

2014

The intensive developments of intelligent manufacturing systems in the last decades open the large possibilities of more accurate monitoring of the metal cutting process. One of the most important factors of the process is the tool state given by the rate of the tool wear, which is the result of a lot of influences of almost all cutting parameters. The modern tool monitoring systems relieved that the accuracy of the results increases when using a combination of surveyed signals such as: vibrations, power consumption, acoustic emission, forces or tool temperature. Combining the output signals in a monitoring function using the neural network method gives the best results when using on-line m…

Global Trigger Technological Demonstrator for ATLAS Phase-II upgrade

2020

ATLAS detector at the LHC will undergo a major Phase-II upgrade for the High Luminosity LHC. The upgrade affects all major ATLAS systems, including the Trigger and Data Acquisition systems. As part of the Level-0 Trigger System, the Global Trigger uses full-granularity calorimeter cells to perform algorithms, refines the trigger objects and applies topological requirements. The Global Trigger uses a Global Common Module as the building block of its design. To achieve a high input and output bandwidth and substantial processing power, the Global Common Module will host the most advanced FPGAs and optical modules. In order to evaluate the new generation of optical modules and FPGAs running at…

Quadratus Lumborum Block Reduces Postoperative Opioid Consumption and Decreases Persistent Postoperative Pain Severity in Patients Undergoing Both Op…

2021

Background: New regional techniques can improve pain management after nephrectomy. Methods: This study was a randomized controlled trial conducted at two teaching hospitals. Patients undergoing elective open and laparoscopic nephrectomy were eligible to participate in the trial. A total of 100 patients were divided into a quadratus lumborum block (QLB) group (50 patients) and a control (CON) group (50 patients). At the end of surgery, but while still under general anesthesia, unilateral QLB with ropivacaine was performed on the side of nephrectomy for patients in the QLB group. The main measured outcome of this study was oxycodone consumption via a patient-controlled anesthesia (PCA) pump d…

A randomized controlled trial comparing nerve block and mandibular infiltration techniques in posterior mandible implant surgeries

2018

Background To compare global surgical pain under nerve block and mandibular infiltration anesthesia techniques, and to evaluate pain during drilling and the distance to the mandibular canal in posterior mandible implant surgeries. Material and Methods A prospective, randomized, controlled, double-blind, clinical trial was conducted to compare nerve block (Group A) to mandibular infiltration (Group B) techniques for dental implant placement. Global surgical pain (VAS = visual analogue scale), pain during drilling or implant placement (MPQ = McGill pain questionnaire) and distance to the mandibular canal (Image J) were statically analyzed. Age, gender, anxiety levels, tooth to be replaced, im…

2015

Previewing distracters enhances the efficiency of visual search. Watson and Humphreys (1997) proposed that the preview benefit rests on visual marking, a mechanism which actively encodes distracter locations at preview and inhibits them afterwards at search. As Watson and Humphreys did, we used a letter-color search task to study constraints of visual marking in conjunction search and near-efficient single-feature search with single-colored and homogeneous distracter letters. Search performance was measured for fixed target and distracter features (block design) and for randomly changed features across trials (random design). In single-feature search there was a full preview benefit for bot…

Modulation of voltage-gated Na+ and K+ channels by pumiliotoxin 251D: A “joint venture” alkaloid from arthropods and amphibians

2008

Abstract Certain amphibians provide themselves with a chemical defense by accumulating lipophilic alkaloids into skin glands from dietary arthropods. Examples of such alkaloids are pumiliotoxins (PTXs). In general, PTXs are known as positive modulators of voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs). Unlike other PTXs, PTX 251D does not share this characteristic. However, mice and insect studies showed that PTX 251D is highly toxic and to date the basis of its toxicity remains unknown. In this work, we searched for the possible target of PTX 251D . The toxin was therefore made synthetically and tested on four VGSCs (mammalian rNa v 1.2/β 1 , rNa v 1.4/β 1 , hNa v 1.5/β 1 and insect Para/tipE ) and…

Polymorphism and solvates of flecainide base

2013

Flecainide base is pharmaceutically active substance used for production of flecainide acetate which is known in market as Tambacor, Almarytm, Apocard, Ecrinal or Flecaine. It is determined that flecainide base forms four polymorphic forms abbreviated as Ib, IIb, IIIb and IVb. Flecainide base form Ib is thermodynamically stable form at laboratory temperature while form IIIb is stable at higher temperatures. Flecainide form Ib absorbs water in its structure between layers and forms non-stoichiometric hydrate. Flecainide base binds with organic solvents and form monosolvates. Flecainide base form Ib crystallizes in orthorhombic crystals with lattice parameters a = 27.88 Å, b = 13.78 Å, c = 9.…

Firme di xilografi seicenteschi nelle matrici lignee della Galleria Estense di Modena

2017

<p>Though ancient literary sources has usually revealed a scarce interest for woodcuts, the study of writings and signatures in the woodblocks of the Galleria Estense in Modena proves that woodcutters did not always remain at the borders of art history. This is true both for the Venetian production of the first half of the 16th century and for the woodcutters linked to the Accademia Clementina in the Bologna area. Several 17th century woodblocks produced at least in part in Emilia-Romagna and mostly created for large-scale printing, show writings and signatures that can be led back to woodcutters whose specific identity is not easy to discover. This practice was probably more due to c…
