Blockchain e pubblica amministrazione: stato dell'arte e prospettive
2021
Ancillary Services in the Energy Blockchain for Microgrids
2019
The energy blockchain is a distributed Internet protocol for energy transactions between nodes of a power system. Recent applications of the energy blockchain in microgrids only consider the energy transactions between peers without considering the technical issues that can arise, especially when the system is islanded. One contribution of the paper is, thus, to depict a comprehensive framework of the technical and economic management of microgrids in the blockchain era, considering, for the first time, the provision of ancillary services and, in particular, of the voltage regulation service. When more PV nodes are operating in the grid, large reactive power flows may appear in the branches…
Challenges and directions for Blockchain technology applied to Demand Response and Vehicle-to-Grid scenarios
2021
Abstract Nowadays, Blockchain is considered a consolidated technology supporting many different applications that integrate well with Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things, and supports the creation of Decentralized Autonomous Organizations. Within this wider framework, the energy blockchain applications are now deserving more and more attention, since blockchain architectures, on one hand, provide transparency and solve the information asymmetry problem, on the other, provide disintermediation. In this way, the dream of an energy market closer to end-users becomes a reality, although, still, the regulatory framework is not clear, especially for what concerns the tokenization o…
Blockchain Governance : A Dynamic View
2021
The governance of blockchain systems is unique due to its decentralized nature and automatically enforced rules and mechanisms. Moreover, blockchain governance is crucial in achieving success and sustainability. With this study, we aim to advance the theory of blockchain governance and support practitioners by defining blockchain governance from a holistic viewpoint and identifying its building blocks. As a result of a systematic literature review of 75 recent articles focusing on blockchain governance, we propose a dynamic model that deepens the researchers’ and practitioners’ understanding of blockchain governance. The conceptual model can serve as a reference framework and structured fou…
Blockchain Securities, Insolvency Law and the Sandbox Approach
2018
Blockchain is a new technology that is based on an algorithm which allows participants of an IT network to process, store and share data across multiple points without the need for any intermediary, at least in order to ensure the integrity of the data dealt with. This technology is simplifying financial markets—many organizations are launching initial coin offerings to facilitate the financing of new business ventures; moreover, ‘securities’ that are issued in such a digital form can be bought and sold in the secondary market without the intervention of the traditional intermediaries. However, this use of blockchain could give rise to many problems which, in this article, will be analysed …
Determinants of Blockchain Technology Introduction in Organizations: an Empirical Study among Experienced Practitioners
2021
Abstract Blockchain is expected to enable new types of interorganizational relationships, new approaches to governance and new approaches to settlement and clearing processes. Neverthless, although the interest on blockchain is on the rise, there are not many blockchain implementations in organizations and there is limited empirical research investigating the reasons for this. This paper contributes to filling this gap by investigating the following research question: what are the impeding and motivating factors for organizational blockchain adoption? Data were collected through a survey based on pairwise comparisons of key factors identified in the literature. The data collected were analy…
Technologia Blockchain i jej zastosowanie w zarządzaniu łańcuchem dostaw
2019
Blockchain is a new technology that allows for decentralized data storage and data verification. Recently, this technology has been gaining more and more interest from representatives of various industries, including logistics and supply chain management. There are more and more voices that Blockchain technology will revolutionize existing business models. However, current research in this area are limited, especially in the logistics and supply chain. Therefore, the aim of this study is the identification of the Blockchain Technology benefits and presenting the potential areas of its application in the supply chain.
THE SANDBOX OF THE UK FINANCIAL CONDUCT AUTHORITY AS A WIN-WIN REGULATORY DEVICE?
2018
This paper deals with initial coin offerings (ICOs) and the sandbox approach that has been adopted by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Its conclusion is that this approach is no longer an instrument for mutual learning only, but that it is becoming a device that produces an original form of cooperative regulatory design where the FCA cooperates with firms to shape the algorithms in a way which is more investor-friendly. Moreover, since this activity does not necessarily imply a tradeoff between social benefits and private costs, unlike other forms of cooperative regulation; and since this activity does not regulate the algorithms directly, as happens with other forms of regulatory …
Next Generation Home Sharing: Disrupting Platform Organizations with Blockchain Technology and the Internet of Things?
2020
During the last decade, the sharing economy has given birth to a number of market mediators, which have grown to become the world’s most valuable companies. Centralized sharing platforms like Uber, Didi Chuxing, and Airbnb have transformed several traditional industries. However, with the rise of the blockchain technology, some voices predict that these platform companies will soon be at risk of being disrupted themselves. In this chapter, we address the question of whether blockchain technology has given birth to a new breed of sharing economy platforms that can challenge the incumbents’ business models. We identify five different stages of the application of blockchain technology in emerg…
Industry Emergence between Technology and Zeitgeist
2021
Abstract This chapter examines the dynamics of industry emergence using the case of the blockchain and crypto (BC) industry. The BC industry is a rapidly developing field that has—in less than a decade—transformed from initially being a volunteer project of a small group of cypherpunks to a global industry with a plethora of actors involving vivid entrepreneurial and corporate activity. Importantly, the review of the extant literature and evidence reveals that ideological driving forces, which have been neglected in prior industry emergence research, constitute a major catalyst of this rapid industry development. In this vein, the chapter shows that the ideological notion of ‘decentralizati…
